sh%t happens, and I'm sure you felt sick to your stomach when you hit the thing, but I agree with AJ, it's not as bad as you think.

Besides mine, and others', suggestion about getting a second-hand mudflap, I would ring a recommended panel shop and ask them if they can do a quick touch-up. Go there first thing in the morning, literally when they open, and ask them really really nicely if they can touch up the scrape. Shouldn't take them more than 15 minutes to mix the paint and touch it up.

I'm sure your engine builder mates would have relationships with places would do it gratis.

i've got some mazda touchup paint in the classic NA red colour which could be used on the panel scrape.

maybe have a look on mx5parts.co.uk for the mudflap if you can't find used ones, they have unpainted ones for NAs last time i looked, i'd leave them in the unpainted black if i were to buy them.

South Road Crash Repairs have done well for me in the past, whole front bumper respray costed about $650.

Thanks guys, am much more accepting of the stupid thing this morning. I guess I was more angry with myself than anything else. I think I'll start with a quote from a crash repairer (my insurer only need one) and will also check prices of the mudflap/mud guard (which is it?? ) and ask what cost would be if I bring my own. Definitely want it to be red though, no black flaps for me

Personally, I wouldn't even worry about it.

You'll get more scratches on the car anyway.

I bet that if you do fix it, within few weeks of the repair, something else will happen.
It happens to me like that all the time.
As soon as I get something fixed, a mark shows up somewhere else.

It shouldn't be too expensive. Come to think of it though, front mud flaps for the NC (pair of teeny little plastic things) were $250 + painting  .

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with sooking.....be as obsessive about it as you like. (from one who is :D ).

one of those silly things happened on me today :( .............reversing the truck in a very tight parking area trying to get off the one lane used for traffic both ways & just kissed a Mazda 626  ............dunno whether i was more upset at damaging someone elses vehicle, or the fact it happened at all (i take a lot of pride in my driving skills).........anyway, the people who owned the car were quite good about it, & quite shocked that trucks my size had to even go into this joint (it is a mongrel of a spot)

Oh no AJ, that's rotten isn't it?! I hope you won't think I'm a horrible b***h if I say it makes me feel just a little bit better: if AJ can scrape something when reversing why shouldn't I expect to do so??

But I hope this doesn't mean you are the second of three. Guys, please all be careful.
(ok, so I'm a bit superstitious)

Postby cosmojc » Tue Feb 19, 2008 9:13 pm

Hi all,

I dont mean to hi-jack this thread - I was wondering where I could get some front mudflaps? Been looking but so far not spotted any in all the usual places and many new to just the MX%
