crunched mud flap !!

Okay it's all my fault. Reversing into a car park this morning and paying too much attention to the car on my left. I crunched the rear right mudflap on a pylon. I am beyond upset. And totally p***ed off with myself.

Anyone in Adelaide with suggestion for a good body shop I can take Bluey to? I'd rather have a referral than go blindly walking through the Yellow Pages...

Is it just the mudflap? the panel is not damaged?
If so, then just put a post up in the \"used cars & parts\" to see if anyone has one.
It will be easier and cheaper just to buy a second hand one.
There are LOTS on eBay.

Thanks Andrew but you are assuming I would then know what to do with the thing... :roll:

I think I'd be far better off doing it right. The panel looked okay except for some paintwork scartched off. There doesn't appear to be damage to it (as far as I could tell through the tears in my eyes... :cry:

).

Spoke to my insurer and they tell me they only need one quote. My excess is $300 and she felt it will probably cost more than that to repair. But if I want to pay for it myself I just ring them back and withdraw the claim. Yuck, I HATE this!

got photoes? if the flap itself is okay you may well be able to get away with just using touchup paint. i do on mine in some flaking spots, sure it's not perfect but who's really going to notice?

if the NB flap is anything like the NA then it's an easy unscrew job to remove & replace. you do have a screwdriver at home yes? make sure it's the left handed type as well.

Nooo!.... Gail, trust me! DON'T MAKE A CLAIM!
It not worth the cost, and certainly not worth the hassle, and if your insurer already said \"more than $300\" then they're already trying to rip you off.

As SMK said, if the NB is like the NA, it's a simple unscrew/screw job.

Hang tight while I try to find some listings on eBay for you.

I'd go for a second hand mud flap off the for sale section and then get a dodgy day going in Adelaide to fix it. I'm sure there would be some knights in shiney armour in Adelaide. Come on guys, help out this damsell in distress!

But if the paint is damaged on the guard itself, not just the mudflap, then more serious painting may be required. Can you take a couple of pics for us Gail so we can advise more accurately? What the others have said is spot on, the mudflap itself is a simple bolt on exercise, and can be painted to match the car with a spray can if necessary, but if the guard is damaged as well then you might want to make a claim and go down that path. I share your pain though!!

I managed to repair my scraped rear mudflap by spraying with an aerosol can of primer/filler, sanding down, and then a few coats of colour (in my case Crystal White). Finish off with lots of polishing.

It was my first paint repair, and looked great, except the aerosol can of white I used was the wrong shade of white, despite it being the recommended substitute for Mazda colour code UC (Crystal White)

So, both my mud flaps have been removed. The car looks better without them anyway, although I do get mud/spray over the rear bumper. :frown:

Sorry guys maybe I've called it the wrong thing? Mud guard? Mud flap? I don't know what it is but it's fixed, and painted and now it's bent away from the body of the car and the pain on the car is scraped too. Here are a couple of pics with my phone. Actually I guess it doesn't look all THAT bad....but...well.

Anyway, it's just a bit of plastic or fibreglass or something. At least the quarter panel it's mounted on is only scraped, not crunched. So will not be the worst thing to have fixed. It's just that she was looking so gorgeous. I've spent so much time washing, claying, waxing and detailing her over the last few weeks and have been so proud of the work I've done.

Blah. Probably I needed to be reminded to be less fixated and obsessed on my car. It's just a car... or so they say.

Anyway, thanks guys. I'll find a repairer and get her fixed. Sorry to disappoint you all but I'm just not up to dodgying her (physically or emotionally). :cry:

that doesn't look TOO serious Gail, like others have said, get yourself a good 2nd hand mudflap, or if you don't want to go to the hassle, just order a new one through a Mazda dealer (be sitting down when they give you the price painted but).............if it were mine, i'd order a new mudflap unpainted from Mazda & get someone in the know in Adelaide to recommend a body shop & get the scratch on the guard & the new mudflap painted with them...........forget about an insurance claim, it should cost less than your excess is

Get yourself a phillips screwdriver and look under there. It's very easy and self-explanatory what you have to do to take it off.

Take it off, and the other side too, and then the car will look better and you won't have to spend a cent

Find some lipstick to touch up the rear qtr and you'll be right!

I'll check it out. My excess is "only" $300 so if there is a way to get it for around that (evern if it comes to a little bit more) I'd rather pay it than make a claim. I've never, ever made an insurance claim.

Sorry guys. I probably sound like a big baby. I'll shut up about it. When I think about the damage/loss some of you have been through really I should be ashamed of myself.
