Anybody got any tips on unsticking a rear brake caliper

Not too sure that will help.

Caliper is now off the car and the top slider pin wont come out of the hole and when i turn it the thread just loosens by about 270degrees and thats it.

Think I may have to take it to ABS in the morning and get them to recondition it

OK, didn't realise you already had it out. I thought you meant the piston was jammed. Got a photo to explain the issue?

Hey Andrew, I spent 20 minutes rebuilding two rear calipers today! The only way I have removed one is WD-40, some heat and some \"attitude adjusting\" with a small brass faced hammer. About two months ago, I had the same issue on the front left of the NB8B - luckily I had a couple of spare sliders as one was pitted and no good. A good reminder for all to regrease the sliders at least when you change pads. moreso important if you do track days.

Don't the two parts (mounting bracket and caliper) twist apart?

On the rear, there is a 10mm combo bolt/slider and a slider on the other end. Must undo the 10mm one to seperate the caliper from the mounting bracket. Use high temp brake grease - I use one from Repco that is PBR branded. Most hi temp moly lubes are OK - thin smear is all you need on each slider.

Well I'm confused....so the lower bolt could not be undone? I thought the photo was of the upper bracket/caliper area.

I use Sta-Lube Brake Caliper Synthetic Grease.

Yup, I use the PRB stuff and relube them at least with every pad change.

Casey had the same issue recently. I believe he had a brake shop sort it out for him. Same happened to me on a NA6, I ended up getting a 2nd had caliper from a wreckers. It is fairly common on our rear brakes. Pays to re-lube the slider pin on a regular basis. I have been using high temp grease, but have also seen specific brake grease in some auto shops.

same thing hapened to me as well, brakes starting grinding at calder the other week. the outside pad looks fine but the inside pad is knackered.

i am replacing with na8 rears this friday.

It took about an hour to get mine out when it seized but the way I sorted it out was to slide an open end spanner into the gap so the open end was over the slider pin and then try to lever it out a bit. Then when the gap was big enough I put another one in next to it and kept levering it with wedges between the spanners.

Dodgey as hell but actually worked.

Got the caliper back from ABS today, $38.50 total cost (including parts) which thought wasnt too bad.

Freed and replaced the slider pin, replaced rubbers where required and lubed ready for installation.

No hopefully i can install it before it gets too dark
