racing beat full exhaust
hi guys,
I'm seriously looking into getting a full racing bestvexhsust sent over from the states, from headers down to the muffler. I would love some feedback on these products if anyone is using them. I know quite a. Few people have their headers. All feedback is appreciated.
cheers

swizzel,
i did a bit of research on the RB headers and the exhaust when i was keen on buying them..
the 4-1 headers are good mainly for the track since the power you reap from it would be from >5000rpm.. for street use, most people i've spoken to have the 4-2-1 because the power sits nice and low so you don't have to use full throttle to get the most of it..
as for the racing beat power pulse, although the stainless steel is of high grade etc. etc., if you're looking for a nice loud gruffy sound then unfortunately this isn't the one.. from what i've read (thru numerous reviews from miata.net) it is only slightly louder than stock.. as for power, most exhausts provide a power which is a much of a muchness i.e. the power output you gain is only marginal from what you can get from other exhausts..
have a look at loch stewart or SMB.. made locally and are quite reputable.

Swizzel,
My findings are completely different to Sligs.
The RB' 4:1's maintain the midrange and are better up top than comparitive 4:2:1's and they have ample evidence of this on their website.
That said I am getting good figures from an Xforce header 4:2:1 but have a set of Racing Beats in the garage waiting to go on.
I have experiented with different catbacks and have found up to 6 RWKW difference (dyno checked) between systems .
I would not bother with a Racing Beat catback as by the time you got it here it would cost a fortune.A midpipe reasonator(Straight through) of around 12 -15inches and a S/T rear muffler will do the job and should not cost more than $450 in full mild steel or $550 if you use Stainless for the reasonator and muffler.
Any good shop should be able to do this and let you try a couple of different rear mufflers that will allow you to tune the sound. The big issue is to get one that doesn't drone at constant highway speed and to use straight throughs to improve the flow.
If you were in Vic you could get a Town and Country set up which has proven power and a beautiful sound and doesn't drive you crazy on the highway.

In Geelong, but there are a few cars in the club in Melb. that you could listen to that have their system fitted.
Rod Munro has one on his NB, Chris Hoskin on his NB8B(lives in Box Hill) etc or Chris and I are doing the Gippsland club run next Sunday morning.
It gives really good midrange torque,Rod's made torque figures on the dyno as good as much more modified cars.
Give me a call on 0417562357 for more info.

stevesports wrote:just to make a minor hi-jack, i hear the N Power muffler is basically a racing beat copy so i'm thinking of buying that (at $200 it's a bargain!) so where do i go to get a good S/S midpipe and high-flow cat that isn't going to break the bank?
i'm in metro melb btw.
just be careful some full SS systems develope a real rasp at high revs and thats why T&C use mild steel for the pipe and SS for the muffler and reasonator.
Mild steel will last a long time in the mid pipe as it gets pretty hot and therefore doesn't hold condensation so really the SS is only needed for the muffler that may at anytime hold a litre of water.

AB7 wrote:Yep, N Power is a copy of RB. Quality wise is a lot better that you think, and I doubt any custom shop can so it for $200.
The muffler T&C use is about $200 also, so $100 SS reasonator+$200 SS muffler, plus midpipe and fitting= $550 .

this is a great subject
i was thinking of getting the npower one and getting the midsection in stainless but after reading this it seems mild steel is the way to go like t&c probably know what they are doing.
also that raspy sound is not what im after
have people got systems on that they can recommend ?
i was looking at a stainless x force cat back for my NA6 for $750 installed
i was then going to get a high flow cat for about $250 at the same time.
but the npower for $230 then a mild steel from the cat for around 200 is a cheaper option
any other sugggestions ?

tjcool it depends a lot on how much you wanna spend... i've heard numerous praises for magnaflow exhausts.. same with Borla.. some people prefer straight through exhausts which gives more flow but it may not give the desired sound you like.. like other people have mentioned, go to your local exhaust shop.. there's a kaleidoscope on sounds out there.. one of my mates' one sounds literally like a jet flying at mach 3 speed.. has a piercing sound to it - and its a high flow metal magnaflow cat with stainless steel cat back.. fitted, it costed $750 so pretty good value
