How to store tyres long-term?
How are you supposed to store tyres, that aren't being used, for years in order to preserve them?

Tyre people who I have asked have suggested....
Inflated
In a cool temperature stabilised area
That is dark
The idea is that this slows the release of the flex agents in tyres (petrochemicals) into the air, and prevents UV degredation.
If you were really keen I think that wrapping in some packing 'glad wrap' would also be a major benefit. It will further reduce interaction with air.

Tyres
Hi,
I used to race go karts a lot. tyres were obviously very soft, but got a benefit from being cycles before use. On a practice day, I would run them up to temperature, then remove them, wrap them tightly in glad wrap (as suggested above), and put them in a cool, dark place.
The cool dark place is more important than the glad wrap, but the glad wrap will help significantly in preventing the rubber drying out.

If i can ad my 2 cents worth. As a previously empoyed person in tyre manufacturing, you may slow some of the chemistry down but be sure of one thing they will gradually keep curing (hardening) over time. Truck and bus drivers do this to get extra mileage. We once left a tyre in a warm dry room (about 32 degrees) and after a few months broke the tyre with a hammer, brittle as!
Make something idiot-proof, and somebody will make a better idiot.

on a previous car i sold i bought a set of used michelins to sell the car on as i wanted the good tyres. they had been in storage and the car was sideways all the time after changing.. they definatley gripped like sh*t as a result of being old and crappy..
i agree with manga.. sell em and buy new ones later best of both worlds
