Leaking Thru the Soft Top

Postby TieNN89 » Tue Feb 05, 2008 1:08 am

The leak in my car isn't going to end is it :(

First its the rain rail
Then its the drivers side seal
Next is the passenger side seal

And now water is going thru my soft top

Not much but is there a cheap fix? Its directly behind the window

Bummer. How about a water proofing agent? How old and what general condition is the soft top in?

backing up Juffa, ask camping and boat stores for advice on what they use on tarps, hoods, sails etc.

your softop was suspiciously weathered considering it's age. There is way too much sun damage for my liking which I suspect the previous owner/s like to park it in the sun, with the top down.

Maybe a good used top from MX-5 Plus would be a good fix. Try some water proofing stuff first I suppose if it's not too expensive.

After seven years my roof is also a little weathered and leaks a tiny bit when it rains heavily.

Green comment had recently installed a new top to his car. It looked pretty good...

I had the same prob a few years ago before I bit the bullet and bought a hard-top. I went to Rays outdoors and bought a can of canvas waterproofer. I applied it to the roof with a brush... it just sort of painted on. The stuff was fantastic. It repelled the water and prevented it absorbing and soaking through the roof to the cabin. I can't remember the name of the stuff but it was in a yellow can. I'm sure you could get it from any camping/outdoors place.
Hope that helps.
