after 22 days you couldn't stand having an off colour rear panel. So i guess the front end paint is long overdue
but then people only see the back of your car anyway, right

yea the front is too big of a surface to attempt with an aerosol can. I've been preaching about not bothering with the spray can. At least the front is consistant grey

but the whole car will get done. Eventually hopefully with 2 pack.

Well Patchy is approaching 19 years of age. With last years addition of polyurathane bushes some rattles have become a little more Obvious or certainly more annoying.
The bonnet was one of them.
The latch was worn & there was all this extra play in the bonnet & over heavy bumps or rough road surface you could hear some rattling. It was driving me nuts.

Initial thoughts were to replace the whole bonnet. But I ended up having the latch welded.
basically David from MX5 Mania just added some material to the latch to make it have less play. This is how it looks.


Then the old Air Dam Guide has had some knocks over the years & was split in a few places. So a spotless 2nd hand one was picked up


It was replaced this afternoon This will make the front bumper have less rattly & will also add to the tightness i want to get back into the car. Before the paint job.

This is the old one but thats where the new one went.

sometimes small things make all the different. I'm stoked with the difference it's made. I was cursing that front passeger shock.

Time to tidy up the dodgy bits
while i've been working away i did some dogy bits like not unbolting them
so its time to clean them up.
like these light covers where I got overspray from the primer

and some of the other wind covers


They got cleaned up & re sprayed in Satin Black


the end result



Just adding the the psychological tightness of the car.

There is lots of little bits like that which will get done over the next few weeks.
It just makes it look a lot cleaner
eventually I might attempt some interior bits too.

Got motivated by various things. The potential rust spots had to be adressed. I was inspired by the Grand Pubahh of JDM God DIY Mr Babaloui

Thats the stuff. Recommended by Babs himself in his GT-R replica Build up. This is hard core marine metal rust preventer. You gotta wear gloves with this stuff. not cheap either if you buy it by the liter

So the day started with removing the bumper bar & exposing the bits which were affected in the crash almost 2 years ago & make sure they don't rust ever. I I don't have to be paranoid about having to remove the front bumper any more.

the bit of concern is the one just underneath the headlight.
a closer look at it

this is just before treating it with marine clean but the metal brush had done some major work at that stage.
eventually it was then painted & also primed for spraying red. serious patience is needed for this 2 coats & preping it for spraying took all day.

while I was waiting for the coats to dry & treatments to have thier effect The fenders came off to adress the potential rust issues there. I've been concernde about this for a few years but now is the time to adress it seriously. A half assed attempt previously need to be sorted so I can put this issue to bed for good.

this is the not so bad side. its about 18mths of build up with the inner wheel arches removed. I'm personally not sure guard rolling is such a good idera unless you remove all these leaves every 6 months or so. and or do this process.

This is minor the other side looked a lot worse before the treatment. This is the driverside.

This is the passenger side during the treatment. A little more rust evident.


Paint drying time. When this is dry it looks like enamel or that stuff they put on wheels. It drys very shiny. its super hard & does not chip. not that its a concern in this spot.

and of course the inside of the fenders were done as well.

OK. It was time to give Patchy a few more patches.

The Rod Millen Racing Boot spoiler had to come off & tidy up some slightly uneven paintwork.



Of course the screws which held on the rear spoiler wouldn't budge so they were ground off. And even though the spoiler vibrated occasionally is was also stuck on with some serious goo.....Not Double tape

so here we are removing whatever it was.....with a heat gun & of course took the paint along with it.



Its not all that bad. I have to take out 2 little bumps in the boot anyway.... probably means I'll get motivated to do some more serious work.

I feel your paintwork pain, the 929 makes me feel sad eveytime I look at it now, went from reasonable paint to patchy, adn going to be that way for at least a few months... Probably more...
