Is there any way to stop, and prevent, the clearcoat from blistering and peeling?

Refinishing is the only way if it has already started to peel/blister AFAIK :( and I can't recommend any body shops that I've been to recently  . Caldwell Paint & Panel 0417 375356 is a new club sponsor. Might be worth getting Adrian there to have a look at it.

I didn't think red MX5s had a factory clear coat? Unless it's the new metallic red.

Try clear nail polish as a temp fix to prevent it peeling any further. I tried it on my mates volvo and it works a treat.

I didnt know about the reds not being clear coated. That explains so much. I just thought the previous owner loved to cut and polish the car every two days!

Very kind of you to offer Sean, but do you REALLY miss 5's so much that you are willing to drive from The Hunter Valley to Brisbane just to help a fellow forumite out? :D

Seriously though, thanks for the offer mate. :)

When and why did you get rid of your car?

Oops I need to update my location, I'm in Canberra now, as is Jimmy which is who the offer was directed at  Although if you're coming this way at some stage I'd offer my assistance to you too

Sold mine to Miata Bart on here mid last year, have satyed in fairly good contact with him and I know I sold it to the right person, he's been keeping it in great condition, enjoying and improving it.
