Clutch slave cylinder

Postby KAM » Tue Jan 22, 2008 9:05 pm

Where is the best place / price in Brisbane to buy a replacement Clutch slave cylinder for a NB8B :?:

Are they the same for all models NA, NB, NB8B :?:

Mine has been weeping slowly so its time to replace it before it fails in a inconvenient place.

You may not have to replace the whole unit. You can get them resleaved for about a 1/3 price of a brand new unit. Mine was completely shagged so i got the whole unit for $90 from Repco.

There are heaps on eBay at around $22USD, with shipping only $15USD or so.
I have considered organising a group buy but I doubt it's gonna have a lot of takers ....

wow, i just realised i said \"unit\" 3 times in my above post, one for each sentence!

Looking on ebay as 1red5 suggessted and you can get a new one cheaper than u can get the reseal kit! Also going off ebay it seems that it is a common part for all NA's and NB's.

If your not keen on ebay, then try Repco, MX5 Plus, and pretty much any auto parts store. They're a fairly generic part and seemed to be priced around the mark of $80-90. (from my experience). Repco may have higher prices but ive always haggled with them and they've always dropped prices to match competitors and sometimes go a bit further.

Thanks for the replies.

Made a few phone calls this morning.

No one lists one for a 2001 model, some only list 93 others up to 98

Genuine Mazda = $110 with club discount

All Brake and Clutch Supplies have 3 options
1. New = $66 but it is listed as for a 93 model
2. Stainless steel resleeve and new seals = $49.50
3. If it only needs a Hone and new seals = $30

Looks like I'll be taking it to All Brake and Clutch to rebuild it.

KAM I got one from these guys - http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/252

Arrived within 5 business days, good quality. No complaints. :) Worked out much cheaper than a new one locally too... Judging by the above website, they are the same for all models.

Took it to All Brake and Clutch Supplies this afternoon expecting to leave it and pick it up tomorrow.
They Honed it and replaced the seals while I waited (40 minutes) at a cost of $33

Re installed it with a speed bleeder this evening 8)

How good are those speed bleeders
Will instal the bleeders on the brakes tomorrow.

For the record the they checked it against the new one they had which was listed as a 93 and it was identical.

Good to hear! Speed bleeders are really good until u over tighten them resulting in a caliper overhaul. I found this out the hard way.

Wow that's a great deal KAM!!

Yep, the speedbleeders are great aren't they. They are longer than the standard bleed valves so don't try to screw them in the same distance, or you'll end up doing what JimmyJ5 did...

Got bored with the Tennis last night and installed the bleeders and bled the brakes 8)

Took longer to jack the car up and remove the wheels than it did to bleed the brakes.

All vehicles should come with speed bleeders as OEM but they won't cause the car companies can save a few cents per caliper :frown:

Just don't over tighten the speed bleeders, they're not as strong as the OEM nipples.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
