there is a kit avail in WA for one of those.

I'd say it would be a whole lot more expensive though. But Geez the respect you'd get

OK

with the 13b your mates are talking out of their ass.
It will make a grown man cry. Its been done before. Some of it has been documented here. you can also get in touch with n13bt....i think is his name
he also has the rear end for sale to suit a 13b conversion

The sr20det......not cheap but street credibility in by books would be insane

turbo your B6. cheapest & most likely your most reliable option

How much power do you want?

I wouldn't bother doing ANY engine conversion that won't let you maintain your PPF.

If like sticking things in the wrong hole go with the SR and not a CA, it's an MX-5 not a tractor.

Speedwok here in W.A. make a kit to put an SR20DE(T) into your MX-5, I wouldn't bother doing it unless you want to make MASSIVE power, then you'll need to spend big bucks on a new rear end and bigger brakes too. I can get you in touch with the guys who designed the kit.

Anything up to 200kw is quiet possible with an MX-5 engine, more is still possible but a lot harder to achieve.

There's a few 1.6 Turbo MX-5s in your area, take a drive in one of them before yo start to put nissan engines into your car.

Perhaps consider a 1.8 upgrade as part of your engine conversion.

13bt would have more \"cred\" in my book but not as much as a 20b

I don't know if i'd want that amount of power in an MX-5 :?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

There's not a lot of MX-5s drifting.

http://www.roadsterdrift.com/

If I was going to learn to drift i'd get a bunky like a R31, spend money on a bolt in cage and a modded RB25. At least panels and parts are cheap and easy to buy.

It also has a taxi sized wheel base and should be easier to throw the rear around than an MX-5.

I understand that's not the solution your after but it's my thoughts as to how i'd get into drifting (rather than make your MX-5 a drift car). :?

shortwheel base = snappy drift

a cheap rotary conversion would be fun...12A or nonturbo 13B

jsut turbocharge your B6...as stan said its cheapest and easiest way. remember figures around 140-170rwkw don't sound big or impressive but keep in mind power to weight and the fact that its a 16 year old 1.6!

FWIW have a scroll through the engine & trans threads subject has been documented fairly heavily over the past few months

and also for what its worth there are many different ways to get the same or similar out come

heed all the lessons learned and thus shall reap the reward

(reward = not spend a wad load of cash to find out you can do it better another way that might be more easy financially!)

I have got my SR20det mounted in my 94 NA.
Budget at least $10k if you want to do it right, and that is doing most of the work yourself. Budget $20k if you have to pay someone to do it for you.
Then you still have to do a diff upgrade and brake upgrade.
Benefits are a much stronger gearbox and huge horsepower potential. The SR probably has the best aftermarket support of any of the Jap 4 cylinders.
I am doing my conversion because I want big grunt and to stay road legal in Vic. I had a turbo 1.8 before that made ~160rwkw. Was very fast but unfortunately did not meet EPA requirements and would have been very expensive to make compliant.

short wheel base doesn't always equal snappy drift, my mates 180 was wayy snappier than mine to drift, its all about set up guys. Slomx if you want any questions answered by someone that actually drifts their mx talk to me (as i am in brissy too) or there may be one or two other guys down south that drift.

Ceapest way to get an MX5 into drifting would be to buy mine, as i have spent heaps on all the good bits. Or if you need any bits i'll most likely be parting my car out later down the track (a couple of weeks).
