Im going crazy!!!!!

Postby AB7 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:27 pm

Hi Guys,

My beloved MX5 started making some funny noises over the weekend. Its definitely coming from the hood, the nose is like a piece of plastic or metal hitting one another...not loud but just like a ticking noise.

I cannot replicate the noise willingly, it happens occasionally but not when the car hitting the bumps or doing anything specific. I could be cruising on a straight and smooth road and it click/ ticks. BTW the noise is coming from the passenger side only.

I have search extensively over the net and the car over the weekend without success. Like I said above, its definitely the hood because it doesn't make any noise while the hood is down.

Its not the latch or loose joints..I don't know what else!!!
This driving me nuts, please help me :(

Thinking out loud here. If you have a look at the \"U\" shaped piece on the hood that latch 'grabs' is it worn in one spot, or is even all over.

On one of my previous MX-5s I found that the \"U\" shaped piece was worn allowing the hood to move up and down slightly. I fixed mine by adjusting height of the latch its self. I dropped it slightly which took up the slack of the worn piece. The hood stopped moving and the sound went away.

Mine used to make a \"tinkling\" sound. Turned out to be the plastic rear window zip pull tag flapping about.
