Brisbane Guys don't pay to get your shocks installed!

Get them for the cheapest price possible swing past the bottle shop pick up a carton of Corona and I'll fit them for you that afternoon (a Saturday subject to no race meeting or needed race car maintenance).

All that is left to do is get a wheel alignment.

Teins definitely have the damping sorted for the MX5 - no question. I am impressed with them no end in the NB8B. They are not offensive and easy to live with. That said, the SE's billies get similar reports. If you can get a chance to drive a car with either setup, you should notice the difference. Again, it is very subjective though. Depends what you are used to. 8)

While taking on board all the comments raised by the suspension experts here, a reasonably cost effective setup is the Koni/Eibach route. IMHO this is a better choice then the Koni/King setup which I find too harsh.

The only problem is that the front dampers need a 10-15mm spacer under the spring platform otherwise it sits too low - I think the Eibachs have Autobarn ride height designed in, not pot-holed NSW backroads. Details on my Cardomian site below.

Anyone reckon it'd be worth while changing the SE shocks to the Teins?

I think it would definatly be worth changing the SE shocks for the Teins...

And when you finally go through with it i would be more than happy to take the old SE bits for a small fee...

are the TEIN SS a decent go for dailies... i am thinking of doing that with the in car (there is a great gaping hole from the double DIN stereo that has been filled with a single DIN radio and I need to fill!!)

The car is mainly used as a daily and the girlfriend isn't much into enthuiastic driving, so when she is around i have to behave, but when she isn't in the car i do drive it like i should...

it sounds like lots of you are using them as dailies... you happy with them?

at the end of the day I know that suspension is one of those things where one person's rough ride is acceptable to someone else, but i'm sure you can lend a hand here!

W.A. President Simon Corston has upgraded his Bilsteins to Tein Flex and he thought it was a definite improvement.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Flex have the pillowball upper mounts and are height adjustable from the bottom of the coil over meaning you dont alter spring rates and suspension travel when you lower the car.

I have heard the valving may be different from SS but im not sure about this.

Im pretty sure Mania can get the Flex even if they dont advertise it.

Had Koni/King, now with Tein SS. Not only are the Tein's more firm, but they are more comfortable as well if you make the dampers softer. If you have the money, go for the SS, else, go for something like Koni with standard, Eibach or even Whiteline springs. King springs are a bit too firm matched with Koni's. Or maybe KYB AGX over Koni's? Just some suggestions.

I got SS's recently. My stock shocks were pretty bad. I'd hit bumps and you could feel the car smacking on the shocks when they reached the end of their travel (well, maybe not that bad, but it sure felt like it).

With the SS's in, the ride is way more comfortable, even with it on I think 8/16 all around (1 being the hardest, 16 being the softest). The car corners much flatter too, which I didn't think was possible but obviously is.

The only real problem is that the car is much lower making it more difficult to get in/out of. But being a young'un it's not an issue for me yet.

As for whether it's worth the money of a shock/spring combo, I can't comment. The only other car I've been in that's had different shocks/springs was tk421's and I wasn't really focusing on ride quality when we went for a blat :P

The height issue is fine if you have the roof off and have a large space to get out in. Just grab the top of the windshield and hoist yourself in/out. Of course with the roof on and a car next to you it makes life interesting.
