Painting Brake Calipers

Postby TieNN89 » Sat Dec 22, 2007 9:38 am

I'm thinking of painting my brake calipers just unsure what colour

Does anyone have a British Racing Green MX5 with painted brake calipers? or have photos of any?

Thanks,
Tien

I've got the BRG NB8A, but no painted calipers. Was considering doing it actually, but it's on a very low priority.

I know irwin83r has painted his calipers on his evo gold NB8A. He did black calipers with yellow Mazda lettering. Looks pretty nice.

If you end up doing it, be sure to post up photos :)

If I was going to do it, I'd be doing it with as close a green to the car colour as possible. But I'm going for that green themed look, which may not be what you're after. Mind you, it's probably the easiest colour to match.

I don't know what other colours would work except either black or perhaps a shinier silver. I don't think red would look too good unless they were brembo calipers or something...

I agree wit marcusus (except the green bit), maybe even yellow? something contrasting so it's noticeable.

I did mine as per instructions of ... uhmmm ... I forgot who it was. Do a search Tien as a similar question was asked a month ago.

did a bit of photoshop

I'm a noob at photoshop so yeah

I thought about doing silver but because the rims are silverish it wouldn't stand out

So all i could think that would suit the car was either orange and green

Orange - Matches up with the side indicator and reflectors

Green - Would probably be better if it was darker but then it would almost be like as if it was black

Let us know what you think

I wouldn't go the orange, but that's just me. Reason being I changed my indicators from the orange to the clear ones, so it wouldn't match with the indicators.

The green looks alright, but of course you need to select a green that's much closer in colour to the BRG. If you get a green that's completely off, it'll not match just as the orange doesn't really match.

Again, this is personal opinion though.

I think a darker colour is a good idea. I don't know if an mx-5 is the right car to have calipers that stick out hugely.

At least the NB brakes look a little more impressive than my NA6s' do with the NB8B 16's.

So I would go a darker colour rather than bright one if it was me, BRG would be spot on in my opinion.

The clear lights clean up the look of the car so much.

The only other colour I can think of that would work on the 5 would be black, but then that doesn't seem to quite work in my mind either, unless you do something like irwin83r did and painted yellow lettering on them to make it stand out more.

I was looking at the brakes before and thought I could paint them a bit lighter than BRG then have MX5 on it
