QLD/BNE Pre-Christmas Engine Swap

On Saturday the 22nd (Friday evening as well), GP14 and myself will be doing an engine swap on his NA8. Anybody wanting to come along and have a look, yarn or lend a hand is welcome. Give me a call on 0417 793 714 or PM me for the address.

We spent a couple of hours on it tonight and are nearly ready to pull the old one out. Starting about 9:30am Saturday.

Can someone PM me the address/where? Mechanically Im very ordinary but \"I can lift heavy objects\"! :lol:

Im trying to sort out a visit to look at Mazlots red seat tomorrow so might be able to come round and help somehow. Or I'll just ring you Andrew when Im oot and about tomorrrow.

The engine swap was a great success. We had a few minor hiccups with the wiring associated with the coil pack, oil pressure sender and thermostat but all were rectified. In total including Friday night it took us approx 6.5-7hrs.

I would like to thank Andrew for his time and effort and ferrying me to and from his Mothers place. It was a mammoth effort and i couldn't have done it without him. I would also like to thank his Mum for the great lunch and dinner and the use of her garage. Love the pit :) Thanks also to 1red5 who turned up in the morning to give us a hand. He saved us quite a bit of time. Last but not least thanks Sabretooth for coming, even though it was 6pm and we had long finished the swap :P

Glad it was a success - which it always is in Andrew's hands. You must get the car out on a club run next year. :wink:

I learnt more things that day, most of all is the fact that swapping engines is pretty straight forward if you have the right people, tools, equipment, and work-area. Andrew (OMY005) had a garage that is on stilts and therefore had a convenient man-hole cut in the floor.

As GP14 mentioned, the only bottlenecks was having to swap the ignition wiring from his old engine, as the new engine had one different plug, and swapping the oil-pressure sender from older to new as the newer engine's one did not work. Oh and the thermostat was easy to swap. These 3 ate up another 1.5 or so hours to the total.

And as with sabretooth's timing, he arrived 5 minutes after the bonnet was closed and everything was all packed up.
it's the thought that counts eh?
