Knock sensor postion

Postby Novice1 » Sat Dec 15, 2007 6:14 pm

Could anyone tell me where the knock sensor is on a 99 model mx5.
Word description or diagram would even be better.

My reason for asking is I think it may be the problem of why my car is so far off the mark with expected hp/torque figures.

Having just returned from having my car dyno'ed after not happy with the first dyno result of 114hp atw, with the following mods, complete loch stewart exhaust system, extractors, cat back. Loch stewart cold air intake. Haltech mini-interceptor.

Lightened flywheel, 805 tighe camshafts with tighe cam wheels.
Others with similar mods are making 124hp atw in same model cars on same dyno.

On a different dyno today my car was only making 75hp atw, 3 dyno runs today with over 10hp difference between runs.

Its definitely running on bp ultimate fuel. Apparently the noise of cams can fool the knock sensor into believing detonation is taking place, when its not and it thus retards ignition timing.

So the plan is to remove the knock sensor and see if there is any noticeable difference in power achieved.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I think it's mounted on the block somewhere near the oil pressure switch. I remember reading about it somewhere but I've never actually gone looking for it.
