NA6 Popup Lights

Postby corners » Thu Nov 22, 2007 11:31 pm

Hi

Whilst driving my mx5 tonight, I stopped at an atm to get money out and turned off the lights. Engine was still running.

When I went to turn the lights back on only the drivers side popped up. I turned them off and back on only to have the passenger side raise 1/4 of what it usually does.

So I then drove to somewhere with light to inspect.
Turned the lights on and off, no change. Would still only raise 1/4. So I then used the manual button below the hazard switch. It made the passenger side raise to 1/2 way and then fall back to closed position, I then turned the swtich off again and the light popped up 1/4 of the way.

So I then popped the bonnet and disconnected power to the light, attempted to wind it up all the way with the manual screw, it would only go half way and then fall back to closed position.

What do you guys think it the problem? I dont know the internals of the popup motor. I suspect there is a gear in there that may be partially stripped or not gripping but dont know for sure.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jaron

I had a problem similar to this with mine and it turns out that the arm that lifts it up on the side had come loose. Couldn't hurt to have a look.

Can you switch the motors over to eliminate that?

Is that possible?

I will have a look at the arm. Thanks for the heads up.

I had a look at this and waala fixed. That arm you talked about was loose. Tightened up the nut and its back to norm

Hey speaking of the lights what happens to most when you turn on the parking lights?
8/10 times the lights pop up but other times they stay down with the actual parking lights coming on. It's a real pain cause I prefer it with the lights down but don't know whats causing the intermittantcy (is that even a word) of this :p

the barn doors are supposed to stay closed with only the parkers on.

sounds like you have an electrical problem somewhere. the first place i'd look is the indicator stalk.
