Just got a reply email back from FM.

They won't go any lower than the sale price of $350USD per FM Butterfly Brace Unit.

This is becoming a really great deal.
I am interested in seeing what Mania will do, but I would assume they will put a considerable mark up anyways.

Good luck guys.

Flyin Miata were willing to give significant discounts if all braces were paid for by 1 person and all delivered to the same address.

I'm sure Mania should be able to give the best price for a group buy given they're buying wholesale.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

That's not really a problem. We're just back at square one. I guess the next port of call is Mania to see what they have to say about it all.

I hope nothing big develops over the weekend and the start of next week... I'll be in Melbourne without internet access so I won't be able to check the forums...

Well I think there is a possibility of mania matching the 750 if we get 5-10 people basing this on the prices from the BD rollbar GB

price for BD on website - Powder Coated $725.00
Group Buy Price - Powder Coated $650.00

so if the butterfly brace is reduced the same amount then we will be looking at ~$760

I can ask them when I go in friday week to pick some stuff up, so we have a week to get the number of interested people so I have a number when I go in and ask about prices

Don't forget guys, you'll be paying import tax on these if you get more than 1 as total cost of each will be more than $500.

If we were to import one of these individually from the USD.. it would be about $625 USD = roughly $720 AUD.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you have to pay import tax if the value of the goods are below $1k..

Either way, I think if we bought the goods in the batch of seven or individually, it would end up costing roughly the same.. As Marcusus pointed out.

SM, I'm definitely interested in getting one of these.. Depending how much Mania will mark down the price.

Sure, but if you were having them sent as a package of several to one address you'd be caught.

it worked out to be $90 USD for shipping per person if we were to get it shipped here in bulk Brad.. So.... $90 USD + $350 USD = $440USD = $505 AUD...

If I charge about $30 or so to ship it to your doorstep, plus about $150 for your part of the import tax, it'd still be about $700ish or so.

I've given Customs a call and whilst their not keen to give advice they helped a bit - the docs are on the customs website apparently.

We have a free trade agreement now with the US.

Is these were to fall under that there would be no duty payable and only 10% GST on the total amount including shipping.

If not there would be 10% duty (but they tell me most car parts are 5%) plus GST.

If there is less than $50 duty owing then they turn a blind eye because it costs more in man hours...(used to do the post side of customs)

In brisbane you can go to the balc ...brisbane air logistics.. also known as the bat cave...

In the reception area there is a book located near the counter often refered to as the bible.....lists everything that is imported into AUS.

It will give you a breakdown of fees and charges...

Any of the air logistics centre's should have the same setup.
