Flyin Miata Butterfly Brace Frame?

Hi guys,

Since the flyin miata butterfly brace frame is on sale atm from the Official Flyin Miata website ($350 from $390), can anyone please tell me whether these are worth the buy? How rigid does your car feel once it's been installed, and also how difficult is it to fit?

If enough people are interested, we might try and arrange a group buy..

i've often wondered if it would make the car to rigid and cause more understeer?

As for someone who has one, Steve (aka tk421) on the forums has one. I've been in his car with it, and it seemed to stiffen things up quite a bit and also seemed to lessen the amount of rattles experienced in his NB8A.

I didn't notice any massive understeer when we went for a drive. Everything seemed like it was stiffened up much like the improvement you get from a front strut brace, but all over. We were flying through Galston Gorge, but admittedly my attention was being held by the performance of the supercharger rather than how the car cornered :mrgreen:

Another point to note is that he has the factory Bilstein suspension in his car which may also contribute to the overall feel of the car and also help in rattle reduction, so I don't know how much of the suspension/rattle reduction can be attributable to the brace.

Fitment wise, I seem to remember that carpet needs to come up so holes can be drilled for the mounting of it. Perhaps if a group buy is organised, a group installation at Mania might be a good idea, much like the BD bars?

How long until the sale is over? If you want to group buy and the sale ends quick, we'll need to act fairly fast. Shipping will also be an interesting one because these things aren't exactly small and lightweight.

Hehe - Bilsteins don't reduce rattle.

From the last group buy of these that happened at Mania ... shipping is the killer. Still, the strong Aussie dollar at the moment should help a bit.

The rattle I'm thinking about is more related to shocks being jarring and causing other things like soft top clips to rattle

These things will always rattle, but I would've thought having a better suspension setup would stop them from rattling as much as before?

Either way, his car seemed nice and tight compared to mine, and that gets my vote

how many of these can we buy in small groups to avoid import taxes?

i'll need to get my car panel beaten underneath first.. some boofhead jacked up my car at the wrong point and left a dent in the frame

i also read on their website that one of the people who had their cars unknowingly fitted with one of these babies felt her car was a lot more rigid the instant she reversed out of her driveway! incredible!

The shipping quotes FM gave me for an anti-sway bar and turbo kit has been very good, they don't put any mark-up on shipping.

I reckon we should get a petition going and shoot it off to them asking if they will open up a shop down unda .....

im actually designing a new type of butterfly brace that will be made out of 6mm Ballistic alloy (what they use in some banks for bullet proof), Im thinking about making a few sets to see how well they will sell.

mania was supposed to get a few braces in like 2 weeks ago. I was going to get one but they kept saying they havent arrived. I still dont think they have come hence why im making my own.
