Belfab racing in the USA. www.belfabracing.com.au
Performance engine rebuild kit (http://www.belfabracing.com/product_inf ... 7acf5bc994) is about $1625 USD. I added a crank and a few other things. With the exchange rate being so good at the moment, its a steal. You are flat out getting a good set of pistonns for $1k here in Australia.
Im not the first from Australia to use him, but feel free to let him know I (Morgwn) put you in touch with him (James Belfiore). He is a very honest guy, provided great advice, and a good service. I am very pleased with the products, the service, the delivery, and his patience. Several engine builders I approached in Melbourne could not believe the price, and were very quick to take his details, believing that the kit is extremely good value for money. They couldnt buy the parts that cheap themselves.
I would have used business names much more throughout my posts, but was unsure as to what the forum opinion would be on \"negative\" views of particular companies.

He does do the pistons and rods for the 1.6 (in 8.5:1).
He is also willing to do me a set of 11.5:1 pistons if I can arrage 2 other buyers. The price landed is ALOT less than the Flyin Miata Wisecos.

Something else worth looking at is the bell engineering turbo kit. Different company to Belfab. They have a very sweet looking Stage 3 turbo kit, including ecu for about 4900 USD.... Thats a fair bit cheaper than similar level kits here in Australia, and it is very well reported in various forums in the states. Plus, unlike the FM kits which use an ECU not supported in Australia, the BEGi kit uses XEDE which is supprted by chiptorque here.... Im seriously considering it.

Just on the engine build side of things if you are going to have the engine blueprinted/balanced you will need to factor in what clutch and flywheel you will be using and also a new crank pulley/balancer. As when balancing components they take your pistons, rings, rods, crank, flywheel, clutch and crank pulley to do it properly. make sure you get them to bore the engine correctly in relation the the balanced crank.
Hope that makes sense.

I can highly recommend James at Belfab. I had some difficulty with customs, due to the value being over $1000. They slugged me with all sorts of duties (which their help desk had previously told me didnt f^%k*ng apply!) But, armed with knowledge that a statement from the US that all goods were manufactured in the USA would qualify me under the AUS/US FTA (Free Trade Agreement), I asked him to do some paperwork for me. Result, I paid GST, but nothing else.
