Just a heads up for those looking to add some bass on the cheap / budget ...
First off, I'm not an audiophile ... I just want a little 'doof' 'doof' to help fill out the sound of my stereo at the lower end and am not looking for vowel shattering bass.
I had been looking for a way to add some bass ... however after considering space limitations, I had discounted separate components (ie. amp / sub box) and was seriously considering sourcing an 8\" bazooka sub from overseas.
However, I came across the following 10\" amplified subwoofer going on special at WOW hi-fi ... not sure if they are still on special but these China made subs were originally asking $300 but were reduced by 50% to $150.
It has the usual low pass filters and comes with all wiring and I figured out that having the amp / sub in one unit would be a good way to go - if I go to the track, just unplug and leave both sub / amp out.
It also fits well within the boot ... the lower recess keeps the sub from rolling about. Lost the spare but that was easily replaced with a can of some tyre puncture foam fillant.
Spent a day wiring it in including sourcing metal brackets from bunnings + straps to secure it.
As my interior's stripped, the channels from the boot to the cabin do act as a funnel of sorts to direct the bass where it's needed. Strangely, it doesn't sound loud outside as it does inside (more road friendly).
I'll probably find some carpet to stick on the bottom of the boot lid as the final mod. Then I'll be a happy camper!
My stereo set now consists of:
- Pioneer MP3 head unit
- 5.25\" Magnat splits at the front
- 10\" Linkman amplified sub
Easy setup, didn't cost much and sounds good enough - would be a good addition to any factory stereo.
