One of the things that's bugged me for a while is the manky state of my doortop mouldings. As any NA owner will know, they go all bleached and ripply, then little bubbles pop up as the metal insert inside the moulding rusts....you can polish your doors to death but you still will notice that horrible zombie moulding at the top.
But you can buy replacement ones from Mazda and they're just a touch over $50 per side. Replacing them is easy as pie.
First you prise out the little plastic stud that holds each end in place (there is another one at the front of the door)
Now forcibly peel back the moulding. You'll be bending it beyond repair but you're chucking it away anyhow...see that clip? Poke in the little tab in the middle of it with a screwdriver and pull it out of the door.
There's a few...I removed my mirror to make it easier, but I think you could do it with the mirror in place if you were careful.
There is a fair bit of gunge trapped under there...

Removing the old one has really ruined it but the new one is perfectly straight!
Bit of Meguiars lovin later and it'll look like this...
Popping in the new moulding is a 10second job

I reckon 30mins of your time and $100 later it's a huge improvement to any NA with old wonky door mouldings.

That is so weird, I was apply black tyre paint last night to my wheels and thought, hmmm I wonder if this tyre stuff will spruce my door mouldings up. Does the job alright, but certainly doesn't look as shmick as yours. Might go fork out the cash now instead.

Rattly windows is more likely a worn regulator.
As the window goes up and down, the glass pane slides up and down this rail inside the door. A plastic wheel normally rolls within the rail, but over time it can crack and fall to pieces, so the window pane is then free to rattle against the rail.
I hope you are sitting down when Mazda tells you the price of a new regulator though
I have this problem in the Luce, it looks like if you could pop in another plastic wheel (and no they aren't sold separately so you need to get it made) say fashioned out of nylon it would do the trick. Haven't done anything about it tho.
But yes it's the same process for replacing the NB part. In fact Mazda doesn't have stock of NA ones anymore and the one I fitted to my car is an NB8C item.
