A WRX STI couldn't shake NPN in a standard SP on ROAD TYRES around Queensland Raceway. 8)

You're just jealous

Actually, as I recall you're car didn't respond at all the to ChipTorque mods whereas mine saw a useful improvement. Then, in concert with the "$2.50 Mod" performed by Lachlan, the power went up by around 15kW IIRC.

Depends on the year WRX you are talking about as each was an incremental improvement over the last. Year for year, the standard SP was quicker then a WRX over the 400m (and away from the lights   - not that I would do that) and about 1/10th slower then the STi.

Cheers Casey:
By my calculations using the formula 0-100kmh: Weight in kgs divided by Bhp (brake horse power) divided by 0.9, I get the following 0-100kmh times.
Unfortunately, the formula doesn't value the differences between rear wheel drive and all wheel drive. Hence, the figures are probably less for the WRX.
Wrx sedan = 6.2 secs
Wrx sti = 5.7 secs
Mx5 SP standard = 6.02 secs
Mx5 $2.50 mod = 5.6 secs

Not quite right Casey. Without the T-piece mod and pre Chiptorque re-tune it made 145rwkw. After the Chiptorque re-tune and still without the T-piece mod it made 147rwkw. So that was a huge increase of 2kw. With the T-piece mod it made another 1PSI of boost which would be around 10rwkw more but pinged it's head off doing it.

Now that I have an EBC for proper boost management it's going back to Chiptorque next month for a retune so it'll be interesting to see what happens this time.

Is there any particular reason why the pre run was done in 4th and the post run was done in 5th?

If your trying to get accurate power gain/loss figures, you would assume that the power runs would be done back to back and in the same gear.

As mines already had the chiptorque mod done, i think id go down there and get them to retune it if i did the 2$ mod ... dont think i really need the additional power thou... its pretty much just right now... the only mod ive thought about doing, but not for a long time... was putting in an AVCR... once again tuning would be best... but it would let you do -

1st Gear - LOW PSI
2nd Gear - More PSI
3rd Gear - More PSI
4th Gear - Maybe even more PSI
5th + 6th - The right amount of PSI :P

There are any number of things you need to worry about before hunting 2 PSI with the $2 mod.

The OEM boost solenoid on the SE gets its source from the post intercooler side (ie TB inlet). So no you cannot do this mod because its already in place from factory unlike the SP. If you want to run more boost you need to turn it up via an aftermarket MBC or EBC.

Oh, so the SE is huffing and puffing out 105kw already on the mod.
Wow.

I have read about/heard about this mod before. Currently my wastegate gets the boost from the outlet on the turbo body, while the boost gauge and the ECU MAP sensor get their readings from a nipple on the TB. The boost gauge and ECU are seeing a boost of 9lbs. I am probably dropping a couple of lbs over the intercooler. Will have to attach the wastegate to the TB and see what happens. Better confirm that I have enough fuel so as not to lean out. So far the 330cc injectors are coping....and have some 550cc if needed.

I know they were in different gears and not back to back as I didn't have the chance but it is an indication of a noticable increase. Even without the dyno confirming more power it can easily be felt.
