Underdrive crank pulleys - anyone interested???

Postby CT » Tue Oct 30, 2007 12:38 pm

GFB have shown some interest to make underdrive crank pulleys for the NA/NB series MX5s - if there is some interest, we can get them made for a reasonable price.

Anyone keen?

Benefits include spinning the accesories like power steering pump and alternator less in track conditions.

They'll be balanced.

They won't dampen torsional ("harmonic") vibrations though. However this is really only a risk on forced induction MX-5s. Atmo engines can tolerate an undamped pulley far more readily.

Matty's right - I'm not a fan but I thought I'd ask on their behalf. I'd prefer a harmonic damper/underdrive pulley as a combo....

I seem to remember a guy on Club Roadster was looking at getting some of these made.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Im with you Mark - I'm going to look into an alternator and power steer replacement. Thanks for the confirmation on interest, I'll pass onto GFB not to waste their time.
