Choosing right offsets
Hey guys im new on this forum and ill be purchasing a black NB8 mx5 soon and im looking for nice wheels with nice offsets. I was thinkin of ssr sp1 in 16x7 on the front and 16x8 at the rear with +35 all around what do you guys think of that combination..

Well...to answer the question, it really does depend on what you're after.
Ie, whether the \"right\" offset is one that dishes the wheel and pokes it right to the edges of the wheelarches, or one that looks normal

OK offset is great so is the & 7 inch at the front. But running different width wheels Front & rear in NSW is a No No unless maybe you get some engineer to sign it off for you.
8 inch could be a little wide too but then again who cares its only the wheels.

ok so maybe you dont care about the above crap.
as far as fitmeont goes......I cant recall now..... plenty of peeps runing 7 inch you may have to roll the fenders on the rear. But I dare say that you will not have a lot of room to play with. Especially if you decide do decrease the fset further.

err no, reading through the link you've provided it states
Front wheels shall be:
• No wider than the maximum permitted for rear wheels on your vehicle or 204mm (8 inches).
• No narrower than 70% of that fitted to the rear wheels.
• No narrower than a standard wheel fitted to the your vehicle as original equipment.
So staggered is ok if the fronts are no less than 70% of the rears width.

correct but you need t get this certified by a signatory
I guess i was getting at minor changes without having to get them certified.
a little further down on page 4
under Additional requirements for replacement wheels
it says something about all the wheels must be the same size, width , offset & so on with the exception of spare wheels in case of emergency.

No, you only have to get them engineered if they are more than 26mm wider or total wheel and tyre combo is more or less than 15mm larger or smaller in diameter than the largest or smallest diameters on the tyre placard. Or alters track more than x amount.
So it would be legal to stagger with say normal width front and a inch wider rear without looking at engineering. Not that you'd do that but you could within the NSW law.

Ok so you need to explain to me why it does not need to be signed off. To have staggered wheel size.
on page 3 it goes to the heading.

I admit English is my 2nd language. But to me that says it needs to be singed off by a signatory

Whilst the minor changes to wheels section doesn't mention staggering specifically as long as you stay within the front rim width of 70% of rear and don't go over the 26mm wider than stock anywhere you don't need to get the vehicle engineered.

16\" are just a tad too big for an MX5 IMHO but each to their own - I prefer 15\" but small offset with deep dish.
Don't be weak ... anything around the +10 mark is good in my books but that depends on whether you are of the conservative / factory spec crowd or willing to be individualistic?
If you look up the user Sonique128 on the clubroadster forums, he has 15x7\" SSR reverse mesh in +9 offset and they are one of the best set-ups I have seen - my 2nd preference after Work Equip 03's.
I looked into SSR rims which can be had around the $2k mark brand new from Upgrade Motoring however I don't think they make the mesh / reverse mesh at the moment.
