Re:
I was just thinking about that one. Would it be as easy as giving yourself a clear path to the mounts, then supporting the engine evenly with a couple of jacks, or an engine crane, and replacing the mounts one by one?Andrew wrote:How hard is it to replace them

I think one side is a bit tough.
IIRC the passenger side goes in first. At this point the engine is at an angle.
Then you lower the driver's side, which has a slotted hole so that the bolt from the mount can just slide in. But I think the slot isn't quite long enough so you have to manhandle it a bit.

If Mazda uses them in a production car I dont think there will be an issue for me with NVH.
I had a creaking noise every time I started off in first or second. I thought it was the PPF bolts because the noise was coming from that area. It progressively got worse and I got Mania to look at it on Saturday and they found that the PPF was cracked at the front diff bolt. I got David to check the engine mounts and both were cracked. I guess the loose engine mounts over time were putting to much stress on the PPF and it eventually died.
To check the mounts David just levered the engine up off the cross member a little and the cracks in the rubber were obvious. Reading Miatanet and talking to David broken mounts are quite common especially in FI cars. The passenger side usually dies first apparently.
My car has 120k km on it and I had suspected that something was up for a while, not just because of the creaking but because the car feels really doey letting out the clutch, a bit like winding up a rubber band before anything happens.
David said the mounts are easy to replace. He would have done it on Saturday afternoon while he was replacing the PPF if they'd had some in stock. They are doing it on Wednesday afternoon after work so it doesn't sound like a big job if you have a workshop full of tools and a hoist.
Prices are on the Mania website.
