Hehe what fun!

Thanks for all your help everyone! The rear end of my car feels fantastic now!!

the fronts are left as an exercise for the reader... :( I'll see if I can get Mania to do them tomorrow...

The new front wheel bearings were very spiffy, so easy to replace compared to the rears too!

Noice work on the Vids BigDog.

What was that MEAT on the fire thing ?? I didnt see a deep fryer at all.

REAL Sauce... comes in glass. It melts plastic.

I see that the Dodgy protocol of one bloke working while everyone else stands and points is pretty much par for the course everywhere.
Won't be long now... On the hunt for an MX5

What a fun day. I intended just watching but ended up with dirty hands. Once I see a motor in bits I cant seem to help myself. I learnt all about front hubs and VVT actuators yesterday. For people thinking of replacing the cam seals on the VVT motors remove the small cover on the actuator, not the big one, otherwise the guts could fall out of the actuator.

What major dramas STM, it was just a minor inconvenience. Nothing a longer bolt and a run through with a tap didn't fix.

A big thanks to Caffeine for supplying Dodgey Headquaters for the day and to Bigdog for manning the BBQ. 8) Great to catch up wth the regulars and welcome to PhatMX

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get along yesterday, but it sounds like I missed a good day. I'll try for the next Dodgy Day!

^^^

Are you going to use it for \"Proof of Service\" in the log book?

Wouldn't it help devalue your car if people knew you did the work on it? :P

Thanks Liam for providing the working area. Those halogen lights were great. :D

The car is running beautifully and feels really nice and tight. Steering is nice and crisp now and there is no more rattling on cold start-up.

A FEW things to note:
- Take the power steering pump off. It's much easier if you just admit to yourself early that it needs to come off to get to those 2 waterpump bolts.
- Undo the brackets on the radiator so you can lift it off. Again, admit to yourself that this needs to be done to get the power steering pump off.
- Buy gasket goop before starting, if not, wait til you have everything off including the water pump before realising that the gaskets are metal. Go to the hardware store and buy some now.
- Do not cross-thread the waterpump to outlet thread. If you do, try and realise it as soon as possible.
- If you realise the above early enough, do not keep going. You will strip the inside of the waterpump to outlet thread. If you do, go to the hardware store, buy longer bolts and a 8x1.25 tap.
- Do not undo the bolts of the VVT mechanisim on front of the intake camshaft. Oil will piss out and you will be paranoid that the VVT internals will fall out. Undo the little plate in the middle instead. You need a star key though.
- Don't stress out that you still have 1 O-ring and a seal left over. With everything else going wrong to sidetract you, it's not surprising that you forgot about them.
- Don't promise anyone that you'll be at there place for dinner at 6pm... you will be 1 hour, 45 minutes late.

Thank you everyone for your help. It was a great team effort. Even with all the hassles, saving over $600 for a hard day's work is worth it. I spent $380 on parts, plus the extra crap from the hardware store on the day.

:D
