Thanks Babalouie,

I'm slightly iffy about taking the valve cover off with my nonexistent mechanical know-how (and bad car karma) hehe.

I just sprayed some of that stuff onto the carbon on my exhaust tip to experiment and see if the foam will just dry up into nothingness (fingers crossed)

SuperMazdaKart, i'm still keen on getting that engine cleaner into the RIGHT port and seeing that white smoke come out the back of my exhaust :)

SuperMazdaKart,

My car is the 94 model with the 1.8. I'm not sure if this has the clear seals or not.

Also, by \"Front\" of the intake do you mean the end which connects to the Air Filter Box?

If I spray the Cleaner into the intake from the Port 1 (Circled as \"1\" on my picture) would I run the risk of dissolving the clear seals?

Just checked, and found that the Foam dissolves into nothingness / waterish fluid after 30 minutes.

Do you think there is a chance I don't need to remove and clean Cam Cover and safely get away with just changing the oil + oil filter after giving the engine a bit of a run?

I dunno....do you feel....lucky? :D

But...how quickly does it dissolve? You could take it for a drive and the heat would make it evaporate pretty fast, if it was a water based thing rather than an oily thing that stuck around...

When I was painting my cam cover, I squirted some water inside the hose inlets and the water didn't leak inside. So it's possible that those boxes are quite water tight.

hehe fair enough.

The fluid is pretty oily, so I guess it won't evaporate that quickly.

It'll definitely provide better peace of mind if I give it a good clean.

Appreciate your advice :)

Well...you know on second thoughts...at the end of the day if its safe enough to squirt INTO the engine it can't be THAT bad for it if there is a bit of it floating in the oil....

Haha, now you're just messing with my head (jk!)

Yeah well apparently this Subaru Engine Cleaner is similar to SeaFoam... and I read that SeaFoam can be put into the engine oil for a short period and be used as a cleaner.

I'll probably take it for a good run tonight and then change the oil tomorrow. Then I might do an oil analysis 2-3 weeks time to see if it's all good.

engine cleaner

Postby spikey » Sun Oct 14, 2007 7:53 pm

I have been using that cleaner for years on my Subaru, there really isn't any good ports to put it into, the best place is from the vacuum pickup of the brake booster, remove the hose and squirt it in there, when I had my manifold off,I tap a hole and put a brass fitting into the middle of the manifold,so when i need to remove the rubber plug and put the cleaner in there.

This procedure is one I will never be doing to my car.

You're going to try the UA upper engine and rod reshaper treatment instead?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I'm no expert, however I think SeaFoam is just a liquid which you need to suck in using the vacuum of the intake.

I've read of incidences where using SeaFoam caused hydrolock when the person was not careful and let the car suck in too much too quickly (I.e. dunking the vacuum hose into the sea foam rather than \"slurping\" it up from the surface)

The subaru stuff is just an aerosol spray can. I don't think it's possible to hydrolock the car using the Subaru cleaner because the spray regulates the amount of spray that can go in over a period of time.

the mazda version uses a restrictor bit for the liquid in a can. could also just put seafoam & equivalent into a spray bottle instead
