Shecks car

Postby Sheck » Fri Oct 05, 2007 7:13 pm

Hi guys, i got a call from my tuner a couple of hrs ago and the car came up trumps. He managed to get 189hp atw on 9psi. Next week i'll go back and up the boost to a max of 12psi and see how it goes, my goal is only 200wheel hp so i may even keep the boost a little lower.

Here are the specs of my car:

Engine
'89 jap import NA
Bignose crank 1.6L standard internally
330cc Mazda Familia GTX injectors
HKS 264 Deg cams intake and exhaust lifts of around 9.something int and 8.75 ex - no mods to valvetrain. Spun off of Flyin Miata cam gears and a Gates Racing timing belt.
GReddy cast iron manifold with a t25 to t3 adaptor plate
Nissan Skyline R32 Turbo running only off standard wastegate actuator and a cutom braket i had to make.
Custom 3inch dump to 2.5inch exhaust including an X-Force 'Metal\" cat 1 resonator, 1 flex pipe ending with a fake HKS muffler 4inch tip. This i made myself so welding is a bit dodgy.
Hybrid intercooler measurement i will post up later, piping is a mix of 2.5inch stainless and 2.25 mild steel
HKS VPC to get rid of the RX7 AFM i had previously.
And running the whole thing is a GReddy eManage Blue tuned by pete at pro torque performance (he does an amazing job, gets good power keeps it nice and safe puts up with all my dodgy mods and charges a very fair price!!)

Drivetrain
6 speed gearbox with redline heavy shockproof oil
1.8 diff 4.1 ratio with a KAAZ 1.5way center on KAAZ oil - which will change to redline at the next oil change
15x7 performance wheels with +9 offset, shod in Bridgestone RE001 195/50/15 front and Kumho SPT 195/50/15 rear.
In the near future will be either running on or drifiting on Volk racing tri spoke 17X7 and 17X8 both with +25 offset shod in Federal 595 205/40/17 for drifting and probably driving too.

I'll get some pics up of the dyno readouts and of the car/engine bay by next weekend.
Dave

PS Mods if this belongs in Off Topic please move it there, only just realised :?

lots of power....

see you have a 6 speed.. was the 5 speed not strong enough to handle it ? i'm interested coz i'm chasing power but i don't wanna go to a 6 speed.

how is the diff going? i thought 160kw was about as much as a torsen could handle ?

thats about 140kw
The 5 speed broke on me (twice) when i still had the GReddy Td04 with only my tune on it, which would of been around 140hp or 105kw but i was drifting it so the clutch pops came thick and fast!!!
I'd say if you take it easy the box will hold together for a while, but 6 speed is the only way to go for reliable strength at those power levels.

I'm not running a torsen either, its a KAAZ clutch pack LSD. Torsen will handle the kind of power your chasing as long as you dont clutch pop it, guys in the US are breaking torsens on stock N/A power by clutch poping.
They are mechanical to they'll work until they just shatter into a million pices all at once :P

yeah the drift thing... i can see how that would kill the box. my 5 speed is doing fine at about 100kw atw, but the only time it ever sees any abuse is on the track in a straight line, i don't drift, so no clutch popping etc. i'm pretty smooth and easy on it, i don't abuse it too much.

i'm trying to build the car around the limitations of the drivetrain...so it sounds like the torsen should be ok but maybe eventually i'll hafta bite the bullet and get a 6 speed.

yea double your current power and the box wont be holding on for long on the track, do a search someone on here had one of their gears just let go accelerating in traffic with about 160kw i think. - in a 5 speed

What was the ballpark cost for the conversion?

I blew 5th with 160rwkw.
That was pulling out to overtake a truck. Full throttle roll on from 80kmh - bang (prob around 150).
I am pretty careful in 5th gear now. Only ever give it full stick in 5th on the track.

Oh yea, the injectors have been updated.

As for the conversion - do you mean the new engine?
I'm not sure of exact cost but i'll dig through my recipts and update it this weekend.
