Replacing Top Control Arm Bush

Postby Hot Rodders » Thu Oct 04, 2007 3:09 pm

The left rear tyre has scrubbed badly on the inside and the culpritt seems to be the Top Control Arm Bush. Can any one shed some light on how difficult to replace and how expensive. Could this be done via a Dodgy Day?
Where I had the car serviced, they said that this was the third one they had seen. Is this common!
Advice would be appreciated.
Cheers!
Rod.

How many Ks has she done?

I would suggest that if you are going to replace one you should do the lot. N*Power has the set for $450

I have fitted two full sets myself, and I'm willing to assist with the install.
The Vic club has specific install equipment that will help.
Did someone say Dodgy Day? 8)

Rod, it's about 2 hours to jack up car, remove wheel, disconnect swaybar, release outer upper control arm bolt, undo and extract the bolts through the inner upper control arm bushes, spin the arm around, squeeze out bushes, fit new bushes, reassemble. Tools needed must include a bush remover - add about 4 hours if you can't find something decent to do that bit.

You'd have to ask why you have just one bush failure. Investigation of the condition of the rest is warranted. Full replacement is around 10 hours in a workshop ... or 2 years of your life at home.

The car is a 2000 NB and has just gone in for its 50.000km service. Nothing has been reported about the other one. Dodgy day would be appreciated as I am so mechanical I only know where to put petrol, oil and water. Oh and I can put air in tyres.

Check with President Murray, or President of Vice, Al. One of them should know who has said equipment.

There are links to their email addresses on the Club website or try their after hours phone numbers in the Club mag.
