17*7 Problems

Postby Schultzy » Sun Sep 30, 2007 2:01 pm

Hey all, i have just had a set of Konig Hot swaps put on the car in 17x7 not exactly sure of the offset. It feels like the whole car is floating around in the ass end and is not stable at all :?

I have tein coil-overs, front sway, under car bracing and front and rear sways (installed to try and fix the problem.....
The guys at Fulcrum said it was something to do with the offset not being right for the car (and a huge mathamatical term for it) but i thought it would be similar to having Racing Harts on it but obviously not :(

If anyone has had this problem and knows a solution, pls let me know! What is the correct offset if i want to keep 17s on the car (NA) because if these are wrong i want to chase a set of Racing Harts instead....

Oh and the tyres are Toyo Proxes 205/40/17

Cheers all

correct offset for the NA's is 45mm

Legally you are prolly allowed to go to 35mm,. there is guys on here with close to zero offset.. without any probs.
I doubt very much its your offset. However you will find a number most likley on the back of the rim which indicates the offset.
Personally I think your tyre guy is talking out of his ass. If its the Toyo proxy its most likely a combination of the pissy sidewalls & that you may not have them scrubbed in yet and your tyre pressure. also did you have a wheel allignment done at the same time?

anyway......if you need to find what offset you have. take a pic of the back of the rimm....a few if you have to......we can prolly tell you what offeset you do have

Had a similar problem with 17\" wheels when I first got my 5. (89 NA6) It came with std 14\" rims and I bought a 2nd hand set of 17's, fitted with Falken tyres of some sort. They were absolute crap. Car would not handle and the ride was hopeless. Finished up selling the 17\" wheels and bought some new 15\" mags and Yokohama C drives. The difference was huge. Been a very happy boy ever since.
Sadly MX5 less for a while.
