Hume Smash

Postby marcusus » Thu Sep 27, 2007 9:02 pm

Everyone keeps saying good things about them, and unfortunately it's now my turn to go visit them.

Does anyone have their details?

Rear ended someone today because someone decided to swerve into my lane, causing hard braking from the people in front of me, thus causing hard braking (although not hard enough) braking on my part.

It's all cosmetic, and the front bar needed a respray from a parking lot incident (thank you nameless people who drive off after scraping other people's cars). Bit of a shame I'm not 25 yet either, because the excess it bloody rough, but that's life I guess. Looks like I'll be waiting a little bit longer until I get a new exhaust system...

Let's just hope that Just Car picks them over the other option.

Might make a mention of it when they're quoting that I'd really prefer it if they did it etc.

You can always try Kass Smash across the road from your work.

I've used them a few times for company cars, including a Merc wagon and my CLK, and they do a very good job. Their colour matching is truly excellent.

Then, you can keep and eye on it, and they'll let you take it home each evening for you to bring back in the morning.
This will save you a lot of hassle.

I'm not denegrating Hume Smash, they do a great job, but they are a looooong way from Marrickville.

Yeah, I used them before for a private jobbie (when another guy rear ended me... flip side of the coin) and it turned out alright.

I thought about going there as the second place Just Car wanted (one place had to be "one of theirs", of which hume smash is), but I wanted to do it all this morning as I'd organised leave to do so. And since I didn't go anywhere near the office today (as I predicted I wouldn't), it's probably just as easy to have gone to the place closer to home for the quote.

Anyway, now we play the waiting game. The assessor is coming to work next Thursday (hopefully). I'll try convince the guy to just let me use Hume anyway if they aren't cheaper.

Really need to turn 25 so I can get insurance with Shannons...

i know this doesn't help you, but yeah shannons are great. i insured my car with them this week. listed all my mods (which is a pretty long list) no problem. i get to choose the repairer if (god forbid) anything was to happen. really easy to deal with so far.

Yeah, even Dennis from Hume Smash (I think that was his name?) recommended them, but oh well. That's life when you're under 25.

I just wonder what my premium will be now that I've had an accident. If I stay with Just Car, I'll have my no claim bonus protected since I bought the option, but the premium still might be more expensive. Will just have to wait and see.

I'm under 25 and with Shannons.... call them up and don't just go off the website if that's the case. I'm pretty sure they specifically quote on the site they won't give online quotes specifically to Under 25's but you should call them.
We can provide you with a quote on-line if:

* It is in good repair (except for Laid Up cover only)
* It is for private use
* You are the registered owner of the car/bike
* All drivers/riders are aged 25 years or over
So that's only for online quotes it seems. Interesting.

Either way, I'll need to wait for my claim with Just Car to go through before I give them a ring and see if they'll insure me.

SPeak with Mick he will make sure everything goes well with your car. Also I think it is worth going with a repairer who you know will do a good job rather than simply going with one that is convenient, especially if you are thinking of keeping your car for a while.

Good luck with it.

The biggest problem is that I don't know any good repairers besides Hume Smash, and only because of word of mouth from you guys.

I would've gone with the guys closer to work, but only for the convenience factor. They do an OK job, but I've been told to not use them by other sources, so figure I just may as well go with the one Just Car recommends.

Not anymore :P
Plus, Artarmon would be a pain for getting to work after dropping the car off, not to mention picking it up when it's all done too.
