Jules,
When you drive my car next weekend you can get a feel for the HD clutch - i find it no harder to drive around town than the standard jobbie.
If we can get an indication out of Sheck as to what sort of clutch it is, that will give you an idea of what to look at...
Sheeeeeeck......!!!!!!!!!! Are you out there?
Heavy Duty Clutch. Which and where to get for 1.6NA?

Jules - I found out from Sheck what I'm running now. In his words - It is an eXtreme clutches clutch, HeavyDuty with organic disk.
Bought from a place in adelaide as it was cheaper to post it from there than buy it from a workshop here.
So when you drive Max on the weekend - keep that in mind re clutch feel and choice for your replacement.

...... I hear that it ain't at all like the regular 5 puck jobbie.
What can you tell me about your experience with the Exedy HD cushion button clutch that brings you to scoff at the Autobarn claim.
I have no experience, but I have friends who has cars with button clutches and they say it's much more difficult than a regular heavy duty organic clutch. If the cushioned button is anything similar to the button, then I highly doubt that it's going to be any easier to driver than a regular heavy duty. Besides the regular HD has a stock oem organic disc, just a heavier clutch cover with higher clamp pressure.
Yes, I think the Autobarn claims are full of crap, why? HD cushioned button cost $200 more than a regular HD clutch. If they said it's better for performance then yes, 100% agree but driveability....no way.
There is a lot of difference between the 5 puck and the cushion clutch.
As for prices ... look here

Exedy don't recommend the 5 puck for daily drivers .... but the cushion button is.
But with 260rwkw capacity I doubt that anyone on this forum needs to spend the extra $ on that clutch for their MX-5's.
There are several SP's that use the Excedy HD Sports organic and with around 130rwkw to 160rwks and some around 350nm it is OK.

Thanks. That would be the Exedy HD Organic clutch. It's the one I have my eye on.
I'm looking forward to the drive....
I'm thinking Saturday morning up Springbrook before bacon and eggs and orange juice for brekky?

Slugoid wrote:Clutch has loosened up in the past few days but I'm finding it a bit too easy to drive. Guess I shouldn't complain, but I always assumed a HD clutch would be really stiff and less play on the friction point, but then the Exedy HD seems feel like the old one but a lot of bite. Maybe it's because it's a new clutch, or the fact that the kit contains the organic disc found in the OEM kit with only a heavier clutch plate. So theoretically it's only going to be marginally better than the OEM kit?
Anyone with the Exedy Sports Tuff HD one as well that can share their experience?
Mine's not the Sports Tuff HD, but it's an Exedy HD with a modified pressure plate (150% clamp) and it's very easy to drive.
