As an update on this, I've just been in touch with customs and they've now decided, that as the total value of goods was under the $1000 mark (they've now taken the shipping costs off). No GST or duty will be chargable and my rim will be released back to Aus post to be delivered.
Don't you just love red tape....

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get around the argument you were trying to evade customs duty by shipping in separate parcels? Did you disprove this by having separate receipts for each parcel?
Also, so customs does not take the cost of postage into account when calculating value?
Really interested as I have an order for a set of Work Equip 03 rims and have requested they ship them as two separate parcels to get them below the $1,000 AUD mark.
Unfortunately it will be at least a 2 month wait for me before I get to this stage ... ^_^
Cheers.

On the documents they sent me I had to separate the goods price and the shipping costs. I just faxed them off and followed up a couple of days later to check that the paperwork was in the system and was informed of the good news. Who knows, I've not got the last rim yet so not too excited.
It also appears there's no 225/45x15 R spec rubber in the country (end of the race season) Had some really bizarre conversations with retailers today telling me that I don't really want that size - I do!! Spent a couple of hours calling around with no luck so don't know what I'll do at this point.
Cal, normal wheel nuts will fit by the looks of it.

Thanks mate - I am envisaging probs with customs too however the whole reason why I did not patronise a local distributor is that even if hit with the full 15%, it'd still work out cheaper than having ordered it here.
Those wheels are nice and at least they are a good weight too. I have performance superlites and there's nothing lite about them at all.
Fwiw ... there are quite a few good rims worth ordering from the states at the moment. Rota, Axis etc just to name a few.

I'll get back to you about the tyres.
Thanks for that.

Will be ok for a month or so till they can get in some more suitable sprint compounds. Ok for road tyres though!
Care to share the details ?

My understanding is that the price of the goods and the frieght is used to calculate duty(15%) then you pay GST (10%) on the goods, freight and the duty, so it is important to keep the cost of goods and freight under $1000.
I have just imported some Rota RB's in 15x7 for Johnd and they cost under $900 AUS with nuts and have some 16x7's on the way for $815US.($934 AUS)
Most US suppliers will make sure that they keep the declaration down for you.
Johnd, about time you put up the photo's!!!!
