I was going to get one from Autobarn. They can get it in for you and it was about $65 I think. Not sure though

I got mine (albeit the yellow one) from Autobahn... They had to order it in as they no longer keep them on the shelf; this means you pay a little extra in postage. It's still cheaper than mania.

Thanks, was bout to go see Autobarn but found some on eBay after some thorough searching (they obviously don't know it's a Simota), though not the translucent one I wanted but for $18 new old stock, I think I can deal with it not being clear :)

I got the sellers last red one, 2 yellow ones left! Get in quick to whoever wants them.

In my experience it will be difficult to get a silicone joiner to attach to these units. The plastic is just not strong enough to support the clamping force.

If you get a 4\" to 3\" reducer (straight sides, not conical), a 3\" turbo bellmouth and a 3\" silicone joiner with clamps from this guy.http://www.jntperformance.com.au/

You can make a very effective CAI. The bellmouth will need to be cut a little so it is more like a rectangle than a cricle, but it will fit in place of the traditional CAI through the firewall and works like a charm.

If firewall holes are not your thing, you can easily route elsewhere.

I have no camera here right now so cannot take a photo of my personal setup.

Thanks for the tip! 8)

Already got the hole made, have got the original type 1 Lochness box & I think it looks ugly. So time for a change.

Both of them? nows thats greedy  Good on ya anyway :)

So you make that tubing yourself or did you already have one from the MX-5 Mania/Loch Stewart unit? in which case, why'd you buy the eBay Simotas??

Looks good though.

Anyone know if the Simota's are washable/oilable?

As far as I know they are not 100% washable. Loch did say that you could use the K&N cleaning solution and oil on them, but everyone else seems to say that the Simotas aren't really cleanable. When I have tried to clean them, they don't seem to "release" the dirt as well as a K&N does (where once you apply the solution, the dirt just seems to fall-out and when you flush it with water, the water is jet black). The Simota element still looks a bit dirty after you're done.

So I've been snapping these things up for years, to replace the element in the Loch intake, and I set aside any extra ones for a rainy day.

Yes it's just a little hole at the bottom of the Simota cone shield, but he did say that he reckoned it was just there to make ppl feel better about water ingestion, he reckoned it wasn't really necessary.
