New Seats

Postby Okibi » Tue Sep 11, 2007 1:48 am

Well it seems to be the season for getting new seats, particularly for us NB8A owners.

Here's our new seats, thanks to Chris at MX-5 Racing.

I seem to sit a fraction higher, perhaps my fat ass hasn't worn the foam down like the old seat. I might end up cutting some foam out.

It definitely wraps around my back a bit better. It's weird being able to rest my head back against the seat, i'm too tall to do that in the seats of our other cars.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

What was the problem with the tasty leather numbers?

They're comfy hey. Same seats as my SE, and I love the way they hug one more

I'm too tall for them, i'd rather have a taller seat between my head and the roll bar. :?

I tried out the SE seats in Steve's (tk421) car recently. A huge improvement over the stock NB8A's. The side bolstering is very handy when cornering hard, but of course the clincher is the extra lumbar padding. Does wonders. Felt much nicer sitting in those seats than the normal ones.

Height wise it felt fairly similar.

I'd love a set of SE seats. My only problem is that I want leather, but in my own custom colours, which means a lot of money, unless I just do one or the other.

Is SE seats basically NB8B seats with different trim?

check ebay. there is a guy who sells leather (well, some sort of synthetic leather) covers . you remove the cloth and replace them , i guess you need to sew them on or something, but they fit nice and snug from the pics i've seen. he sells them for all mx5 models and also has heaps of colour options. he did a group buy on this forum recently, you could do a search. seems like there were many happy customers .

Thats max who's on this forum. Those black and gray covers are from his business.

Yeah, I remember that thread/guy. The stuff he sells is leatherette. I have no idea what that is, but he was saying it was synthetic leather, which would lead me to believe it could be the fake stuff that's in taxi's.

I'd much prefer real leather, hence why I haven't gone that option. Not that I have anything against the product, and by the looks of things it looks like good quality. Just that I would rather the proper thing. And while I'm at it, I can get a steering wheel retrim too

Sounds like NSW club members can get a GREAT deal on leather covers.

Another issue that I hadn't expected.

Because the seat is a bit higher and is wider around my shoulders it's now harder to reach behind me, flick the soft top over the brown davis and catch it with my other hand. :?

Looks like a good time to unveil my new seat as well ...

That happens to go REALLY well (in terms of stitching and colour scheme) with my new-ish wheel
