Just cover it up with some random silver paint.

Dude, I'd love to help but am a little too far away. :?
I'd be thinking about putting some minor bracing in that area
to tie it all together/add strength and minimise the flex there.

fastfreddy, I'm considering putting a flex joint further down - I'm assuming that the diff work I did (which required detaching the exhaust) ended up stressing the dump pipe, and leading to that! I should have braced the exhaust.

You live in Ormeau now don't you? I don't think I'd be able to - the MX is the only way for me to get down there. I'm -hoping- for a "drive in, let it cool, weld it and bolt it back up" kinda deal.
