hazard lights flicker randomly ?

i have noticed that when i am driving, the hazard lights flicker about 3 times and stop, its just so random, innitally i thought it was my remote being pushed in but last time they flashed the button wasnt touched. i have noticed that it didnt flash when i alarm was in full working order, anyone else had this problem?

BTDT. Very annoying, especially in traffic :oops:

Alternator in my case (also nb8a), tried alarm, central locking etc etc but in the end it was the alternator.

Very difficult to track down, if you are still having trouble try and borrow an 8A alternator (they are different to the rest IIRC) and see if it goes away, thats how I did it (or at least how Dave and Russel at Carco did it).

Which reminds me, I should reconnect all those things I disconnected...

ahh, i didnt think the alternator would effect the lights

but i have noticed that the battery is almost dead, and on start up when i flicker my lights on and wind down a window, it lags like crazy and the lights dim, it would be ok if the battery was old, but it isnt, its only a few months old, and has already died once before (my fault though)

the lights have been flickering more often though, maybe its a sign of the alternator dying?

Can't remember the cost, by then I was just so grateful to have a fix the cost was a minor consideration.

Just wondering if you've found a fix yet. Alternator? Battery?
I was having the same problem......hasn't done it for a while though.
Haven't tried to solve it myself, my battery is not too old but I might have the alternator checked. I won't do anything 'till you've sorted yours out.

Could it be the flasher unit? It's under the steering column - give it a few light taps and see if it causes a flicker.

i have this problem and i have found that there is a bunch of wiring above the accelerate pedal under the dash that if i jiggle, the hazards flash. i havent had it fixed yet, but i believe its a problem with the factory fitted immobiliser... as sometime the stupid thing immobilises when i try and start it.
bit gay, kinda embarrasing. one guy tried to fight me at traffic lights thinking i was flashing my hazards at him!!! bloody hell.

Crocaine & Metris, just wondering how'd ya go with this. Mine still does this occasionally and I'd like it fixed. I just haven't gone through all of the likely possible causes, so I'm patiently waiting for a solution.

I thought it was some sorta deal to warn you the battery was on the way out.

I thought it might be low battery condition, but even after I replaced the battery with OEM Panasonic, I still get the problem, exactly as Crocaine described. I mentioned the problem to Mazda service manager, when I left the car for service last week, but it still happens.

hey hey, i found what i believe is the immobiliser module (small black box), under the dash on the far right... its accessible, JUST! I hurt my back doing this so take care.

There is a bunch of cables that plug into this module, mine were loose and when i reached up to jiggle it, the plug fell out. At this point the immobilser locked in and i couldnt start the car or use the buttons on the remote etc... I eeeventually got the plugs back in, but couldnt reach enough to attach the clip on the plug... but its in, and i havent really had much other trouble since...

Well metris, I had a good look & fiddled with a few plugs & wires like you said. Nothing loose there.......I would've loved to find a loose plug or something, but everything looked OK. Maybe the immobiliser itself is faulty?

hmmm... were you able to located/touch the module im speaking of?
...are you a normal sized person?
Cause im a short ass, and pretty skinny... and i could reach pretty high up compared to my mate who was trying to help me, he couldnt do it and I could only juuuust reach to get the plug in...

On the other hand if you remove the plastic under the steering wheel and if possible the right side lower dash, it would probably be pretty easy to get to...

103kg & 6ft but somehow was ably to get a reasonable look under there. Just got one hand up there with my mini-maglite torch. Everything looked properly attached 'though. I presumed the immobiliser was the flat rectangular metal box, approx 5\" x 4\" black with wires connected to one side, from memory.
