Bilstein + Kings + 17\" wheels combo

Postby silvermiata » Thu Aug 30, 2007 5:47 pm

I will get some second hand rs spec bilsteins + king springs on my NB which has 17\" rims on, does anyone have this combo and if they do how is the ride height and harshnes for daily driving? Do you get too much scraping? Thanks. 8)

I can vouch for the RS Spec Bilsteins (off a 2001 model). I have had them for about 18 months and wouldn't change them.

Originally I had the factory RS springs and they were really hard but still quite liveable for me at least. I think they would be harder than the Kings though (which can be rough themselves, I have only experienced them in an NA). With the weightier 17's that may not be a bad thing I guess. Personally I run 16's. Kings come in different heights as I understand. Lower will mean some scrapes yes - all part of the fun :) . As long as they are not too stupid you should be ok. Some say Kings can sag over time, others say no.

FYI I now have eibachs which I think are a little better matched to the RS specs (as do others that have dríven the car).

just my experience but i can vouch for the fact that king springs sag. a few years back i had a falcon ute for work, put lowered king springs on it, was awesome for about a year then they started saggin BAD, wheel camber screwed up, was getting bad shuddering over bumps and chronic bump steer...

i know mx5s are very different to falcons, but if its any indication of the workmanship... maybe i got a friday afternoon job set of springs... dunno.

but hey, i have considered them still for my 5! if they sag, just take em back... :D
