I know that......it's no excuse to market them like that here.

Craig wrote:Sure it'd be nice but if we scratched it or damaged the bumper removing it, the new owners wouldn't be happy campers.

Fair enough, given that the dealer destroyed the rear plate trying (unsuccessfully) to fit it centred  , one can only imagine how they could completely screw up a de-rivet and re-rivet job on the front.

Did I mention there is also an adaptor plate available for the rear so that the rear plate can be fitted properly - just like it would if the car complied with ADRs :?:

Apart from being true orange, it's also a folding hard top :P . It was the only ragtop apart from a J series (no DSC/TC) bleck auto. Whatever, they all came with a cr@ppy 45 cent front plate holder.

once again, our dealer was nothing short of fantastic with our car, even JBT had to grudgingly admit today that they did a good job with what they had to work with, but by the same token, i can't fathom how any dealer can present someone with a brand new car loooking like say Jeans car did with that number plate mount, i'd have thought that as an up & coming salesman Craig, you would at least push for any car you sold to look as spectacular as possible when the owner takes delivery, it took the guys at South City Mazda less than 40 minutes to do ours, & as anal as i can be, i still don't see the need to go for the MX5 Plus plate holder now, but after seeing JBT's this morning, i'd certainly recommend them 8)

Nup! RX-8's have the same problem as the NC's. :?

Certainly not Mazda Oz's doing, but would have been a smart move for them to address. Lucky for MX-5 Plus they didn't. :D

Cheers,

Craig, I thought you were made of stern stuff :) - you can take more hits than this. You could get some brownie points by making some recommendations to the dealer and Mazda Aus.

AJ's is fine..........BUTTTT he has prestige plates which have their own unique bracket/attachment system. The dealer also cut so much off the bottom off his plate bracket that it's only held by the bar rivets now and has no lower attachment at the grille.

Interestingly, when I was contacted by phone by Mazda customer relations (Melbourne) to gauge our intitial satisfaction a couple of weeks after buying the car, I told the lady about the pov front bracket and the rear attachment. Her answer: " Yes, nearly everyone complains about that on the MX-5" :? . So, in 2 years of NC sales, they have done precisely nothing to rectify it.

The trouble is that it's also so freakin' obvious stuck out there on the front of the car.

JBT
The japs at the factory would look at Aus sales maybe 100 a yr??, Yanks 1000's a year, why would they bother making a different plate holder. As for Mazda Aus, if Jap truck distributors are anything to go by, why bother, eventually the customer will forget about it, or like me, buy different brand of vehicles in the future. I bet if this problem surfaced in the \"6\" or \"3\" it would be treated differently.

They have the same complaints in north America and the UK. IIRC, there is a different bracket available in the USA.

Never mind, MX-5 Plus wins the innovation prize

Just fitted the bracket to my NC.

Very happy with the result. Looks neat and tidy.

Why can't the dealers fit this bracket as part of predelivery?
