Advice Needed: NA Dash Replacement

Postby bush_pig » Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:40 pm

Just after a little advice.
I need to replace the dash and meter hood on a 1990 Mx5.. I think the previous owner used some sort of paint or something on it because it is really sticky and soft... never seen anything like it before.

Anyway, just wonder if anyone knows how much work is involved in replacing the dash and meter hood... the hood is a seperate item and looks like a couple of screws to set it free. Dont know about the dash though.. it frightens me a bit

Just trying to estimate the cost of installation in hours... any ideas much appreaciated.

Well, removing the dash and instrument cluster is the easy part. Should take about an hour. The hard part is putting the new dash back in. This can take hours and lots of swearing. Although i havent done a dash replacement on my five, ive done a few on some corollas and in total i would say it took 4-5hours (also being the first time i had done this) The bit which got me was when the dash was back in, i was left with numerous nuts and bolts which i have no idea where they came from so probably worth noting which bolts/nut came from where. Overall, its a reasonably straight forward job, just very time consuming.

Hope this helps.

Really sorry for the thread hijack but Jimmy J5 I love the picture in your sig. Sorry end thread hijack.

On topic, dashes are easy enough but are time consuming for the first timer. After a couple you'll be whipping them in and out in no time :D
