just an update guys, i have bought an emu & am going to buy a wide band for the auto tune so it pretty much tunes itself, im hoping to have it all going & plugged in within the next few weeks so i will keep you all informed, also with the emu you can buy a plug & play loom so you dont have to chop any wiring.

The Emanage ultimate will run 550s but IS a REAL pain in the ass to tune..the emange Blue is FAAAAR easier to tune but will only handle 365cc injectors on your NB...I reckon an emanage blue with the 365cc is the best option for your car as it runs a higher base fuel pressure making the injectors flow more than the stated anyway....Tuning an emanage blue is just the same(if not simpler) than tuning a stand alone ecu.All you need extra is an O2 clamp whch is easy to make and setup now that ive worked out a way to drive it from the emanage..
like others have said...miataturbo.net has loads of info...just dont get sucked in to buying an Ultimate,,, they are just not worth it.
I am in the process of setting up an Emanage blue for a friends '98NB HKS turbo so should be interesting how it goes.

hmmm a little late

why is the ultimate harder to tune?
did you use a wideband & auto tune?
please let me know

the ultimate has far too many variables that need to be played with to get the car running right...IMO its the worst of both worlds.....it needs as much time to tune as a stand alone and wont do as much as a stand alone.....also the proper \"auto tuning\" on the ultimate ONLY works with the genuine Greddy wideband unit so if your using another sort your' screwd, and may as well have bought a Greedy emange blue....youre still gonna need an o2 clamp with the ultimate and work around your wide band.....you would have been better off getting the BLUE...sorry but its the truth...the ultimate was designed for cars like the skline GTR and supra to work around the very good ECUs they have. The mx5 has a very basic ecu so only needs basic solutions...I was the person who figured out how to use one of the aux outputs on the blue as a switch...no one else in the world could figure this out so i guess you could say i know what im talking about....

Thanks for the info, i guess im in the deep end & will soon enough find out how bad it really is....
what variables are you talking about?
I was under the impression that you needed to use the greddy pressure sensor to make the autotune work ??? (i have one of these)
why is the clamp needed? (is it needed if you have a greddy pressure sensor)?
cheers

With the Greddy pressure sensor you can remove the AFM, which is the best part about the Ultimate. The clamp is to get around the stock ECU hunting for 14.7 afr under 4000rpm. At 3000rpm I have 9PSI, so 14.7 is not good.
If you haven't bought the autotune yet, I wouldn't. I think the tune could be just as good (if not better) without it, just harder to get.

YOU STILL NEED AN O2 CLAMP WITH EITHER ONE....because all the fuel you put in with the piggy back is taken out by the stock ecu...with an 02 clamp it fools the stock ecu into thinking evrythings ok and so it doesnt try to adjust the fuel on top of the piggys fuelling changes...
this is very important as with a turbo its very easy to be in boost but only at part throttle so the car needs an air fuel ratio of say 12:1 but the cars ecu tries to keep it at 14.7:1 so it runs lean...not good!!!!!
