I'm replacing my (waterlogged) motor - the pics in the cam cover thread show the variable intake timing gear I'm going to trial.
So who's currently running variable gear, what sort of settings, and what sort of benefits/issues do you have (keeping in mind I've also got boost)........

Me. Toda cam gears with Tomei cams.
2. what sort of settings
STOCKBecos that's what Tomei recommends for the cams.
3. and what sort of benefits/issues do you have
Absolutely none (refer #2 above)
So why have the gears and cams then ... sorry if the answer is obvious but it aint to me

Well I ordered the gears and the cams together, then when I opened the instructions for setting up the cams, it just said to leave it at the stock timing. Of course by then I'd already paid for the cam gears and it would be a shame not to fit them...

The theory is that you can advance the cams to increase mid range or retard the cams to fatten the top end.
But in my experience mucking around with the cam gears on a Toyota engine, it can feel like a 5% gain for a 10% loss. I really only bought the gears thinking that the new cams would need a non-std setting but I would go with what the mfg (or Mazda in the case of stock cams) recommends.
If you have a very modified turbo engine, then fair enough tho.

Yes mate, Maruha....fresh from Shizuoka. I think these will be the only F-Cams for NA6 in OZ, and no more will be available. They only do regrinds on local exchange for B6 now and as such wont export them.
Note these are 252 IN / 256 EX and they did the development in conjunction with Tomei (equivalent Tomei Cam is PONCAM however only available for BP) so very closely related to your cams
