Soft top replacement
Hi
I did a search and thought i would get lots of hits, ...
alas no. I have a NA and my soft top is getting to the end of its life.
I live in Chatswood, Sydney.
I think i am handy enough to replace it and info exist on the web...
I suspect that there are not many wrecker versions as i suspect
they are damaged in bad accidents..
>> So recommedations on replacement options ?
I know you can get ones from the US and the UK . Anyone do that ?
Is the US Miata exactly the same as an aussie NA ?
Thanks

There are HEAPS of options on ebay. Just go to www.ebay.com.au and search for mx5 and bask in the reflective glory of all the soft tops on there.

Give MX5 Mania a call and see if you can get a roof and mechanism of a newer NB with the glass window back.

Are \"flexglas\" windows legal in australia and do they suffer
the same scratch/fad issues as the plastic ?
i.e. is this better than just plastic (glass too expensive) ?

I'll be ordering a new hood from these guys in a few weeks;
http://www.gomiata.com/robsoftop.html
U.S. imports, but with our current exchange rate a Robins $499 softop with defogger glass (no zip) should set you back just over $580 AUS + delivery, which shouldn't be too much to Oz.
Another one to check that has some fairly cheap parts is this NZ site.

Good luck,

Yep that's mine. It's mohair with the glass rear window and I fitted all by my lonesome. Took about 6 hours. 6 very very long hours. Absolutely no problems installing it at all and I only just discovered a small problem with it now after a year. The top of the roof when it is open pushes down on the plastic piping around the back screen and is causing some wearing but nothing major. This will be fixed soon be raising the stops underneath the frame slightly higher. Cost $995 fully delivered and there's no worries about it getting broken unless the postie is very very hamfisted. It is very strong glass.

So have you ordered one yet, or anybody else? I am thinking I will get one of these ones, after getting told $1200 for a second hand roof at Mania - will be a lot cheaper and brand new. But when putting it in, are they missing anything that you have to take off the old roof? What about the frame, latches etc?

Ive got had one on for ~2 months now. Very nice kit, and pretty decent instructions, even though i used one of the sets off the internet.
Was a shade under $700 to my door with Express post, so fairly cheap, and cheaper than the Ebay one. From what ive seen on the internet, it sounds, like its the better made one of the 2 as well.
Everything is there. You MAY need the Binding plates if your car doesnt have them, their on the Robbins site (and their part numbers). It even has the stuff to modify the NA frame to the NB style frame.
Looks great too. Was very taught when i put it on, and still is fairly tight. If you can, do it on a warm day, and have a helper. the rain rail is not a one man job by any means...
