Replacement antenna for NB
Has anyone replaced the power antenna with a fixed mast unit like the ones on S2000 and NC (would this fit an NB)?
I've replaced my HU but the new one doesn't have an antenna control. If it's turned on the antenna goes up and to my mind I really don't like the look of it up...spoils those curves
So if someone has any idea where to source one and the approximate cost this would be highly appreciated..
Oh and to the Wingzzz guys up north,,,Bastards.
I now have another addiction and a deep fryer (something I swore I would never own!!)
Cheers

we did an interesting test at the dodgy detail day here blackmx...............young saboteur unscrewed his NA6 remote control antenna off his NA & unscrewed the little black whip off our NC, the threads are exactly the same, which surprised us, the RC antenna screwed straight into the NC base, unfortunately the NC antennas thread was too short to screw into the NA base, but they were essentially the same, we just sat the NC whip into the NA base & it looked awesome...............i guess what i'm saying is, just try it in the NB, it fits the other 2 models
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

I've been contemplating this as well... I replaced the head unit and didn't connect the antenna wire to anything. I listen to CD's the majority of the time, so it didn't make sense to wire the antenna to the power etc.
Occasionally I tune in to the radio for some FBi goodness, but of course FBi being such a small station, you don't get good reception unless the NB antenna is properly retracted.
If I could get my hands on a small NC style mast, I'd love to give it a burl.

Quite a few on the forum have done this with the S2000 antenna and apparently it fits very well however the thing costs just over US$100!....wonder what they cost here? Come Monday I'll give Honda a call.
Thanks AJ I will call Mazda too!
Did find this though http://www.locustom.com/miata_fender_install.htm
This I would go for.

I had the same issue when i installed my head unit.
My solution was to install a switch to control the power going to the antenna giving me the choice when it goes up and down.
Head unit on, antenna stays down no matter what function is selected ie: CD, radio.
Press button when head unit is on antenna goes up...

So I'm guessing you drilled the hole through the existing spare button and just glued it on or something to that effect?
I wonder how easy it'll be to make the entire spare button pressable... shouldn't be too tricky I'd think... Might have to get in behind there on a spare weekend and have a fiddle.

I was thinking of just seeing if you could loosen the current blank one, and just put a toggle behind the current one.
Something to think about for another weekend though. At least I know now it'll be relatively easy if I want to do something similar to what you've done Andrew

Well, the old Pioneer deck works pretty well, and already does everything plus more than the standard NC stereo even, so not really worth replacing it til it carks it. That being said, the screen is on the way out because I used to remove it when it was installed in my own car for security. Of course, the removeable face security feature doesn't stop me from dropping it
That and I really doubt I'll bother buying a new head unit if I get a new car... I'm getting too old to be dodging around with my cars...
