I am getting the nickel, yes the next batch.
How much are the 225-50-15 Ao48's? Are they street legal and what is the expected mileage?
Thanks Col

Col,

Don't expect much change from $400 if and when you buy them. I have never heard of anyone being booked for their semi slicks, but that's not to say they are legal. They have wear indicators, so as far as i can tell, yes they are, but i wouldn't guarantee it.

I run RE55S on my Mazda2 daily, wet or dry, but try to keep it mellow on the street to keep the attention minimal!

Expected mileage on the A048's wouldn't be great, depending on alignment specs, probably 15,000km? I have done 10,000+km on my RE55S and they look brand new. I've done 3 days on them and i could do 3 more no problem as well as more street driving. I run 1.5 degree neg camber all 'round, toe out front, toe in rear but keep the pressures where they should be. They've returned good life! For $1600, they've been great value. They don't make a 225/50/15 anymore though :( and mine are 215/45/17.

according to this Australian website they are D.O.T.-approved
http://www.tractiontyres.com.au/mstyres.html

Tire rack also mentions they are DOT approved. But thats in North America.

This is by no means a reflection on you... more on the daily hack

You gotta be trying really hard to attract attention in that thing...!

What's wrong with that? Reckon you don't get noticed when you go 'round the outside of most things on the road, even if they're trying? It's not to pick up chicks, i don't need to. I already have one. It gets me to work, gets me to track days, lets me have some fun, gives me a new car warranty, doesn't kill me with fuel bills, lets me deliver parts when i need to and for what it is, goes alright :)

Everyone who has gone against it has been surprised, and it will only get quicker :)

At $1600.00 per set it makes the Falken 615's look even better, especially as a duel purpose tyre.
Falkens from tempe $205.00 delivered.
I haven't seen the Falken 205 side by side with a 225 but by the tyre specs they are wider than most .I have been led to believe they are as wide as most 215's.

Anyone have pictures or experience seeing them side by side??

The 6ul's have been used with both 205 and 225,some guys even run
195's on the 8\" rim to get the Jap style inward sloping sidewalls so the 205's should be fine on Emilio's rims.

All i can say is, i hope they improved the RT615. The RT215 was a great street tyre, but when used on the track, it was not much better than a street tyre! I have had no reports on the RT615 as my friend then went on to use D-02G's.

RT615 is not a lot different from the old RT215. In the dry on a mountain road I preferred the old RT215. RT615is not a semislick. Its a road compound with a semislick type tread pattern. Just like its predecessor the RT215.
But an awesome street tyre for the weekend warrior.

I would dare say The Advan A048 would be quite a different tyre to the RT615. I would guess its more in the category of say the Dunlop DO1's.
It is a lot softer compound to the RT615. And would therefore be severely affected by no of heat cycles. So its almost comparing apples with oranges.

If you want a comparison between the RT215 & the 615 you'd better start a new thread. And my opinion would certainly be subjective.

Pumpn'Go wrote:Emilio used to have a cheap freight company that brought stuff by sea,but the company closed.
I hope to find cheap freight, because tyres in the US are cheap $86.00 for the Falkens, over $200.00 here that leaves quite a bit of room for freight just not enough for Air freight, And they can get heaps of tyres that we ca'nt.
Col

I wish I could find a sea feight company as well;RSpeed have the Chapparals (minilite type)fitted with either 195/50 or 205/50 S Drives for a total of $770 US a set !!!!!

Over a $1000 freight by air which then has duty implications, so you would need to do sea freight. RSpeed doesn't provide sea.,only air

I am making a light luggage trip back to Oz in December and I plan on bringing two of the 15x8's with me, plus 2 x 225/50/15 A048's for the rear of my car. The 225's are $204US each from tirerack here, just too good to pass up ! I will wait for the 15x7.5's to be made next year to get my front ones, and I will run a 205 tyre on them... see how that goes ! I will grab a set of those alloy wheel nuts while I am at it too...

I'm not sure on both counts, I just noticed that one of the front running 2F class cars up here uses them in that size.

Cheers,
Julian.
