949Racing 6UL - 15x8 +36 ,Gauging interest for GB..... maybe

Hi Guys,

My love for the mx has been reborn and as a result am pouring alot of funds into it now.. the next thing on the list is to pee off those fat heavy 17's it came with and get some reasonable weighted 15's.
My issue with mot of the wheels avial in oz is they are either the wrong, weight incorrect offset (too tucked in guards) or are too heavy.

As a result I have come across (which im sure most of you have also if you visit miata.net forums alot) the 6UL wheels engineered and distributed by 949Racing.

Pros:

- 15x8
- +36 offset
- a touch under 12.9 lb (5.85 kg)
- LOOK FRIGGN Sweet (well i think so)
- Cheap especially with the strong Aussie to US dollar currently around .85!!, $149US each

Cons:

- They have to be ordered from the states, freight etc is a pain in the ass and can be a bit $$$.

I have spoken to Emilio who runs 949racing (really nice guy) and is willing to ship international and has quoted approx $310 US for a set of wheels to oz, so all up you get get a set landed for around 1k AUD all said and done.

Good luck with this Mark.

You do not want them to be coming out in big lots to save feight as that will attract duty and make what seems a great deal pretty ordinary.
If he means that the company will ship mulitple individual sets cheaper then this ok .

Duty kicks in at a value of $1000 for goods bought for personal use ,including freight and is at 15% of the goods cost plus GST(10%) calculated on the cost of the goods and the duty and the feight.

I recently got a freight quote of $380 for Chaparrals from RSpeed,(they are heavier than yours around 16lbs)) so your quote for freight seems reasonable.

Also assuming you have an NA as you are going for 15\", then the 8\" rim is illegal for road use as they exceed 25mm (1\") over the standard width.

So are 15X7's but everyone has them. You can use 205/50's on these wheels. I dont think there are many options for 225/45's available here.

i can't remember once car that i have had that actually complied with that rule.. and one claim was made when i was in an accident and had no issues with insurance.. soo hmm i don't know how well this rule is inforced.. either way the car will be mainly used for track in the future.

i don't believe we import any 225/45/15 into australia (correct me if im wrong), but yes as said above 205/50/15 fits also which is quite common here.

That's a good price for the freight.
I posted a lightweight wheel (just 1) to Perth this week and they charged me almost $50 just for the postage!

Some of the International Air Mail (EMS) services are quite reasonable.....i have a set of wheels from Japan on the way $250 for freight.

18racing.com in the states are also a good source for Rota, The RB in 15x8 various offsets will cost about 1k landed too.

Thanks Rob good to know, i guess when you think about it the cheap"ness" of the rims over there is then somewhat evened up by the freight but i don't mind paying 250-300 knowing ill have them in my hands within 5 days or so

Hi I have already ordered a set from Emilio,same freight as you said.
I have chased the 225 rs2 Hankooks and cant find a supplier,so I will get the 205 Falken 615's.
Emilio used to have a cheap freight company that brought stuff by sea,but the company closed.
I hope to find cheap freight, because tyres in the US are cheap $86.00 for the Falkens,over $200.00 here that leaves quite a bit of room for freight just not enough for Air freight, And they can get heaps of tyres that we ca'nt.
