Hi all
I have been in touch with another forumite about 2002 6 speed gearbox that is not as sweet as I think it could be. Have had oil change using Valvoline (workshop supplied) but no real change. Advised that this is 'common' for the 6 spped box, and to try Redline Gearbox oil. I am in no way disputing this advice, but was looking for comment from others who may or may not share this view. Don't want to start a war, just interested in comments before I try this approach.
Thanks

my 6 speed feels pretty much the same with whatever oil i run, i'm now running redline heavy and its a tiny bit more stiff than with the previous; Motul type II something-or-other, redline light, and castrol gearbox oil.
I'm gonna bleed the clutch fluid soon cause its all dark which means its stuffed so that could have something to do with the added stiffness.
I really good drifter in the US has used redline heavy for a good long time and it has held up to his power and clutch kickings so far (turbo car). He changes it once a season.

Well, I have recently used Redline for both gear and diff. Initially it made a difference, no crunch from 1st to 2nd. After a couple of months now, back to how it was before.
Why did it improve after the change? No idea, maybe the oil was really contaminated and I should do it again to flush it out. Then again, I may be wasting time and money on something that may be a characteristic of the gearbox.
BTW, no such how much grease to apply when installing the gearstick. As there is no oil in the turret, I often wonder if that ha anything to do with the shift quality, as I only applied very lightly.
