Vehicle height with Tein Flexes

I recently went for a \"test\" drive through some windy roads to test out the new allignment i had done. I found that the wheel was touching the top of the wheel arch under hard corner or really large bumps. i have just increased the height so that the top of the tire is visible through the guard where as before, it was slightly under the guard.

I'm just wondering what height i would need to put my car at to stop this from happening. is where i have it now sufficient?

i am running 205/50/16. i know these are bigger in diameter than what ur suppose to run, but they came with the car.

The tyre is taller than stock. Stock size should be 205/45x16. I've touched the top of my inner guard but thats seriously hard cornering with standard sways & seriously sagged King springs & konis........no big deal really. Its made of plasic.
You may also have gone super low as well if the cornering isn't all that hard & your hitting the inner guard.

u need to get profile of 45 for 16 inch to prevent the tyres rub the fender.... otherwise, with 50 profile, you need to raise up 10mm (or approx 8mm) higher than that is recommended in the instruction manual.

A 205x45x16 is 590mm in dia.
A 205x50x16 is 612mm in dia.

So the front will sit 11mm higher than standard and you have 11mm less clearance in the wheel arch.

Besides the obvious recommendations to get some performance tyres with the correct profile, you should remember that Mr Plod insists that the minimum clearance under your car is 100mm loaded.
I know you can adjust it back up should you be caught but just a little warning if your car attracts unwanted attention.

with 11mm, there will still be some clearance, but with 8mm, there is no clearance at all but not rubbing the guard...

See the pics in the post on 16x8s where I've posted pics of my race car. It runs on Tein Flex. You don't need the car so low it can't get up driveways to make it handle. You should install them at the heights that Tein recommend in the installation manual - generally, they are pretty correct.

i've just put new tires on and am going to get a realignment since i've raised the height at the front.

hopefully that will fix the problem, won't know till i hit stanwell tops again or wakefield.

The national park is pretty harsh. It's a hard one, because normal street driving vs having a good go through the national park are two different things. On the track, i don't have scrubbing issues. Through the "nasho", i just forget about the noise my semi's are making whilst coming in contact with the guards every now and again! The road is crap, that is most of the problem.

Touching the inner guard isn't a major problem. As mentioned, it's plastic. At some point while driving, it'll touch. Getting compression whilst turning will do it. It's not a huge deal on a lowered car.

Ho do the Flex handle the national park anyway? Too stiff? I think most cars are too stiff going through the bumpy sections, but once it smooths out after the Bundeena turn off, it's pretty good with aftermarket stuff under your car.

i got some RE001's but i was driving with G3s.

Flexes were a little harsh for the national park, i rekon a lower spring rate would have been better for the national park. flexes are probably more suited to a track with a few small bumps in it.

got the allignment redone on the weekend, got a bit of toe removed. it was a little twitchy under hard brakes through natio.
