NB speakers

Postby Fuzzlet » Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:07 pm

Had a measure of the speakers in an SE today, and they seemed to be around the 5 x 8 mark (or maybe 6 x 9). Who has changed their speakers, and what have you used?

6x9 are to big, 5x7 or 6x8 will fit. As sprx3 has said, remove the plastic filler panel for the stock speakers and there is an 8\" hole there. I've recently replaced my scratchy Phillips 8\"ers with some Clearwater ones from the US with mixed results. Originally they were way to bright for my ears but with a bit of tuning they sound quite nice now.

I'm fairly sure the stock NB8A speakers were 5x7's... If you want I can measure them exactly for you because they're sitting right next to me in my old sub box (anybody want a cheap sub box and 5x7 speakers? :P )

Yeah I noticed the plastic piece, and I might go down the path of SM, and use MDF to make some spacers....any chance u still have the templates?

I have Pioneer 8\"'s in my doors.

You could stick in larger ones if you don't mind cutting some sheet metal.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

no real templates as such but u live close enough so we could just make up a new set.

Really easy to make, remove factory speakers, use paper or cardboard to make a template, trace it onto 3-6mm mdf, jigsaw it or in my case use scissors, match the holes on the template with the door then drill them onto the mdf (getting them in the right places was the hard part)

let me know if u need anymore help

3mm mdf will just be a gasket really.
But 6mm with scissors?
That's pretty ghetto 8)
Huh?

Yeah making a spacer out of MDF sounds the go, since I already have 6.5\" splits in the NA, and if I can transplant them into the SE it'll be nice
