I love my flex :mrgreen:

I was one of the lucky people that Tyrone bought sets for whilst in Japan.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

What is a reasonable price to pay for the Tein Flex and the Flex SS?
Are the Flex that much better than the Koni/Kings setup that I currently run?
I must admit I find the Koni/Kings setup very stiff but I am waiting till I hit the track to start playing with the shock settings.

Mx5 have a problem with suspension travel especially in the rear,with the flex you can lower the car without changing the travel...that is the main reason I bought them...SS are about $1800,Mono flex are about $2700...

Flex have stiffer spring rates...but still not too harsh for road use.

Always comes down to money...Koni/king are a good start but there is a big difference as you spend more money...if I could afford it I would have Penske or proflex but then you talk about $2.5K+ per corner.

Our local MX-5 specific workshop is doing Flex for about $2,500
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I picked my flex up off a guy via the Tradin Post. His dad had bought them back from Japan. I paid way less the the going price. 8)

Tein Super Street for MX5 (without upper mounts) - $1499

Tein Flex for MX5 - $2099

Tein Mono Flex for MX5 - $2395

People in Australia get ripped off day in and day out. Simply because they have no idea about people like me!

These are Jap Spec units. Yes, Mono Flex are available although some people will simply give you a quote on Super Streets for $1800+ and not mention anything about other models because that is all they can get or have in stock. I order what the customer wants. I have Mono Flex on the way for an MX5 now. Will be here monday for Hellmun off these forum's.

I will help everyone out who wants good quality shocks for less than the workshops charge!

Don't pay $3000 for Mono Flex!

That way you could advertise your prices etc.; looks like you could get some great parts for forum members.

I have spoken to them. If people are willing to support me, i will support the forum. I have started with nothing to get my business off the ground, hence the lack of advertising.

I have also had major problems just signing up here (unable to load registration page!) but now that i am here, i will certainly be happy to support it!

Basically, when people think Japanese parts, i want them to think Race Supplies Sydney. I know i can beat prices here and get them here quicker by air freight!

This might sound like a noob question, but why do the super streets not come with upper mounts? How much do they cost with upper mounts?

Unfortunately I'd say super streets are a way off yet, but they're on the list.

You can buy them with upper mounts. It's just that when people buy SS they usually want the cheapest option.

Price with upper mounts would be $1810. That's why people buy without mounts because that is almost the price for Flex!

The upper mounts are basically more solid. They're called pillow balls. Basically a spherical bearing. Means there's no rubber in the strut top which improves feel and response. Comes with a disadvantage and that's noise. They can be a bit harsh over bumps as there's nothing to cushion large bumps. And they can knock over bumps when they wear a bit.

My Cusco's have pillow balls and it doesn't bother me. I run RE55S on the street as well, which sounds like a large prop dríven aircraft behind you, so i guess that says a bit about me :)

Are the TEIN SS or TEIN Flex legal for street use? I seem to remember someone saying they weren't street legal. Is this correct? Maybe Im confusing it with something else?

I'm led to believe the Aus Spec SS is. My personal opinion is, regardless of what you have, you'll still get a defect if the police want to defect you. Even if you have an engineers certificate they can still defect you. How can you tell if it's Aus Spec or not? I'm sure you could tell them they are, but they wouldn't care. An RTA place wouldn't know the difference either. It could be a good thing, could be a bad thing.

Sorry to say mate but the TEIN SS is the only legal street useable setup in NSW, because of some thing called a clevis clamp or something like that. The part you can adjust the hieght of your car and still have the entire damper movement.

This is the reason I didnt go to the flex. I can get into enough trouble without giving some boofhead the right to tag my car un road worthy.
